I will be breaking down Chavez Jr skills/pros/cons/vulnerabilities base off this fight.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
160lb
stance: orthodox
height 6′ 0″
reach 73″
Julio has like 40 fights against a bunch of bus drivers and I guess Duddy is supposed to be a step up but ehhhh yeah lets continue. Julio hooked up with Roach and I thought it showed cause he as boxing more with the jab at the beginning and looked somewhat good. Round 4 and up he went back to his come forward Mexican fighting style. His inside fighting game is alright but lemme break it down.
Boxing skill:6 out of 10
He gets hit less and lands more so thats always good. He has something to fall back on if his opponent has a better inside game than him. His footwork didnt look all that good while boxing which caused him to sit there on the ropes with the high guard instead of evading, whenever Duddy had him cornered.
Inside skill:6 out of 10
He appeared more natural fighting on the inside. Catching Duddy with the looping rights at will. But he is vulnerable to short left hooks which Duddy landed those at will. I also peeped something that a future opponent can take advantage of. When Jr fights on the inside he leans hunched in which leaves him vulernable to uppercuts. I would tell future opponents to touch the side then uppercut or right uppercut left hook. Once he runs into a power puncher its game over.
Power:5 out of 10
Face it he has average power, he hit Duddy with everything including the kitchen sink and Duddy was taking them. I dont even think Duddy has a granite chin cause he was hurt but Jr couldnt finish a guy with a ****ty defense even after stunning him.
Chin: 5 out of 10
He got hurt in round 6 by a looping right hand. You can tell someone's power by the pop of the glove when the opponent blocks it and the force of the snap and Duddy seems to not have very much going on there. Soo ehh you figure it out.
Overall Grade:C+
Face it he is decent at best. He already has 41 fights under his belt so it would be hard for Roach to make something stick on him. I dont see him at the elite level. I say throw him against the 154lb-160lb prospects. Like Fernando Guerrero or Angulo. Matt Korobov would kill him. Gimme your inputs.
