Well he still achieved a lot, more than most people. But I guess his popularity is down to real good promoting, and Hatton being the type of guy he is... people look at him as one of them and think of him as the peoples champ.

You gotta bare in mind that UK are sports mad, they love there sports and they love supporting there country (or area, whatever), when somebody represents them, whether its England in the world cup, GB in the Olympics, or a British fighter competing at world level, they give them there support. It probably helps that hes white too (not claiming racism too much), a lot of guys are racially intolerant and like to see a white guy do well, not the media, just some people in general.

I mean Carl Froch would be more respected over here, but hes gone about things in the completely wrong way, people loved Calzaghe in the UK... they thought of him as a great fighter representing there country, when Carl came in talking a load of ****, they didn't care about him... and he didn't have the charisma for people to get pissed and make people want to see him lose, he just came across as a bit of a **** so nobody was really bothered about watching him.

Anyway, back on track... if your British and achieve something great (winning a world title is a great achievement regardless), you will be very well supported, thats why people loved Joe, he was an undefeated 2 weight champion who was P4P#2 when he retired, and he also beat 2 Americans (there is always UK vs USA rivalry). If we ever get a guy like Mayweather, Pacquiao, Jones, etc. in the UK, somebody who wins world titles at like 3+ weight classes and is P4P #1, he would be worshiped.
