Comments Thread For: Pacquiao Thrilled To Receive His Award From Joe Frazier

Pacquiao is a very special fighter, no doubt. But in my heart, there is one fighter that is more special; Floyd Mayweather. Floyd without a questionable doubt in my heart and mind is the most GIFTED fighter I've seen in this generation. It will take an Insurmountable effort from any fighter to beat him, even Pacquiao. The only fighter I can foresee defeating "Money" will be, Mother Time. But until then, we'll continue to enjoy the splendor of his talent.

If anybody deserves it it's Mayweather. 41-0. 41 tried and failed. But I'm sure Mayweather wouldn't want that award anyhow. To him it would be like those championship belts that he doesn't want either. He knows he's the best so he's content with that knowledge. Nothing else matters. Take those belts and that fighter of the decade award and stuff them.
This has got to be the dumbest post in history.
Muhammad Ali took Joe Frazier so seriously that he got back to his 1966, pre-exile weight to fight him. He tried every psychological tactic possible to get Joe off of his game. He came out throwing tons of punches to try and send a message and keep Joe off of him. But he couldn't do it. Joe kept coming, started timing Ali's quick hands, and countered with bombs. Once Ali went defensive, Frazier went to work on the body, and the rest is history. At the closest to their respective primes, Frazier pounded Ali into dust.
The 2nd fight was a wash, and either guy could have been given the decision, really. Joe's corner made a huge mistake and tried to have him switch between southpaw and orthodox; they tried to use more jabs, etc.
The 3rd fight was Ali getting revenge on a Joe Frazier that he knew was washed up by that point. In other words, he pulled a Floyd Mayweather. Fight them when they are down. And Joe still almost killed him. Ali was never the same after that fight.
Pacquiao is the greatest fighter of this generation, bar none. He has the best resume, the best wars, the most titles, and he takes on absolutely everyone. Unlike Mayweather; who's talent is undeniable, but he will NEVER fight the best when they are hot. De La Hoya almost beat him and he was completely washed up. About 3 more jabs per round and Mayweather would have a "1" in the L column.
Give the man his credit. You say "stuff them" because it didn't go to your hero. You'd be talking about how important this award is had it gone to Mayweather.

Floyd needs to step up his boxing entertainment when in the ring.
WINKY WRIGHT, SUGAR RAY LEONARD and LENNOX LEWIS all said this year in the same interview that PAC is the most entertaining fighter in today's boxing ... I guess JOE FRAZIER believes it too...

This is ****** and wrong. It was frazier who spent years avoiding a fight a fresh,non-rusty version of Ali.He ducked Ali despite Ali clearing out the division of all top contenders and only took a rematch after Ali's struggles with former sparring partner Ken Norton.
After Ali easily beat frazier in the rematch,he went on to regain his title and unlike frazier, didn't spend years avoiding another encounter where he would once again decisively beat frazier.
frazier wasn't even the second best heavyweight of his era.His two greatest wins came over two heavyweight coming off a long layoff and he spent his entire career cherry picking and avoiding virtually every puncher of his generation.

He was over his pre exile weight in that fight. Ali did not really take Frazier seriously in this fight. He was out of shape, was clowning around during the fight with unnecessary shuffles and taunts etc..
Frazier did not pound Ali into the dust. Ali took everything Frazier had that night and came back firing in toe toe-toe fashion. The fight was actually quite close on the scorecards. Also Ali's reflexes, stamina and dancing longevity had diminished after he came back from exile. It could clearly be seen in the quarry fight. Also you should pay close attention to some of the things Howard Cosell said regarding the physical condition of Ali.
"The 2nd fight was a wash, and either guy could have been given the decision, really. Joe's corner made a huge mistake and tried to have him switch between southpaw and orthodox; they tried to use more jabs, etc." - this is a ****** post. I have watched the fight and Ali won an easy 12 round UD. Ali was dancing and sharpshooting with clean effective punches throughout the fight, while frazier was hitting thin air most of the time. Ali also effectively blocked Frazier's left hand using his gloves. Although he couldn't get back his reflexes, stamina and dancing longevity he learnt from the mistakes he made in the first frazier fight.Last edited by Vadrigar.; 06-03-2010, 02:39 PM.
