RJJ, Ali, Tyson and many other marquee name used their [U]special talents speed, strength, and athleticism to separate themselves from that "pure boxer"[/U] mold.

that's the thing ^ and many will agree, that while Tyson, Ali and Jones certainly did have great boxing ability

as in the cases of Jones and Ali they were Olympic medalists

but what I underlined highlights what these guys were more known for they could certainly box well, but were also very un-conventional from a technical stand point .. which is what you said.

and if you don't like the term virtuoso then how about well rounded because when a boxer can mix in great defense with in fighting, or being able to counter punch well .. I don't think of that fighter as someone who is a "pure boxer"

being able to do it all as you say actually goes against the actual definition of what it means to be pure. (see Red)

my vision of pure boxer dont have to be yours. A pure boxer in reality transcends categories. For whatever reason one who is pure can do it all.

you make some interesting points, but versatility would be a better word to use. That the fighters you named don't have to rely on 1 thing to win a fight, they combine their boxing ability with natural talents

We got boxers, sluggers, brawlers, all the fighters I listed fall into the category of boxers, pure is your opinion, but me, I see a basic style similarity of those who dominate this sport.

Mixing "pure" with "can do a little bit of everything" would be a contradiction.

Roy has shown that he possesses pure boxing skills and he has employed them many times in the ring. Like I said, a pure boxer is diverse......lets try this. Isn't hit and not get hit part of pure boxing? Isn't stick and move part of pure boxing? Does Roy Jones not do that, especially during the years that made him fighter of the decade?

I'm sorry neither Gatti or Oscar were favourites in either fight.

Not according to the fans or the casino, Floyd was a VERY heavy favourite in the gatti fight. If you thought Gatti would win you were simply ******ed.
