The doctor, Paul Wallace, is now defending himself. According to Wallace, Cintron was asked twice if he was able to continue and both times he replied "no." Wallace said he would have allowed the fight to restart if Cintron had indicated that he was capable of continuing.

"I did say I wanted the fight stopped because the fighter twice said he could not continue He was asked, 'Can you continue?' and he said 'no.' Twice. If he had mentioned to me something like, 'Give me a moment ... ,' I understand; these are warriors. Any hint that he still wanted to participate we would've given that to him. We would have got him up and given him a second evaluation," Wallace told The LA Times.

Once Wallace called the fight, he claims Cintron changed his mind and wanted the fight to continue.

Also, I had to go back and look at the fight again to hear the doctor (me and my pops watch all teh fights with no sound), and Cintron was telling him he could continue (before the stretcher). I just really wish he would have got up. That is the only fault I put on Cintron.
      Exactly!

Why are people that are calling cintron a ***** keep ignoring the fact that the doctor told him to stay down and they stop the fight before he was given 5 minutes to recover.

The truth is most people had cintron up but regardless it would have been unfair in my opinion to reward him the victory; very unfair to paul when it wasnt his fault kermit fell out the ring. the fight should have been called a no contest

good luck filtering through all the idiots.... Cintron was outboxing Williams who didnt help himself fighting with a crappy strategy. Once he turned it on we saw each guy land a decent punch and then Cintron land the first punch Ive ever seen actually jello Williams legs. Even when Martinez sent Williams to the canvas it was more of a flash KD. I rewatched the fight and had Cintron up a round after 3 and from looking at the fourth if Williams kept getting tagged like he was the fight was gonna end early. This is a bit early to start this discussion but its well known that Williams has taken a lot of punishment to maintain his status as the Punisher. Are we seeing the first fissures in his chin and come forward mentality?

what did you expect the DR not defend his stoppage decision? Is he lying probably no but regardless If Cintron had the air knocked out of him and for those who watched the fight had a physician very quickly asking him if he can continue, he says no what should have happened was for him to be told "you have 5 minutes to recover than the fight is over, not calling the fight immediately. Ive seen enough of these to know that most boxers will take close to the full 5 and then end up jumping back in. This issue is ******ed and proves only that Kermit Cintron was outboxing Paul Williams. Unfortunately for the Williams band wagon it also probably indicates that guys like Mayweather and many of the elite welters would likely beat or at the very least not be the underdogs that so many believe on here. I likel Williams attitude and style but the dude is what he is.

Well there you have it. I could have sworn I heard/saw something else, but oh well.

The Doc does not agree, and has stated so...

                  A rematch has to happen.
