"Larry Merchant knows nothing about boxing."

steward aint that bad to me.. because for the most part alotta the **** he says is true... larry merchant is a different story.. i dont mind steward he is a great trainer..so he prolly knows boxing like the back of his hand.. merchant on the other hand....

this is true..Steward does down play Floyd..just not as nasty as Merchant does..
but damn he was hyping Jose Cotto eventhough he was getting outboxed..
but if you go back to the Baldo fight..pre fight, before the fight was made..Steward was saying Baldo would win..he would be Floyds real test..Floyd will not be able to hang with him..Baldo was a threat, ect..then as soon as Baldo looks ****ty in the ring..Steward comes with excuses as to why Baldo looks bad and he was to this and that..
Merchant is a negative old geezer..he will never give Floyd his props..never has!
sometime Steward tries..but I think he dislikes Floyd..and its hard to be objective for him.

I grew up around Detroit in the days when the Kronk team was smashing everyone. I don't think he's ever trained a pure boxer like Floyd. It's not his style. He did give Floyd credit and even stated he didn't think Manny could handle Floyd. I don't think a single fighter pays attention to Merchant. RJJ used to go at it with him as did George Foreman. The guy that post this thread is really too sensitive. Stewart gave Floyd his props and he actually went on record as saying it was an even fight and Shane would bring out the best in Floyd and make him fight. That is exactly what he did. What more do you want?
I remember Foreman and Lampley getting into words over Prince Naseem..
and RJJ put Merchant in his place so many times..one in particular..Roy told him "you aint never been in the ring before Larry..you dont know unless you been in there..I have"...
a shame they fired Roy for not attending the meetings about discussing the boxers personal lives..
