What a tragic ending for everyone invovled, especially their kids. I think the Venezuelan authorties could have done more to save Mrs. Valero.

What a troubled man, he could have been one of the greats, he possesed some of the greatest punching power in boxing, but what a waste, the man had all the talent but was an idiot, rip to his wife as hers is the only life wasted in this mess

The news that Valero committed suicide is shocking and not shocking at the same time, if that makes any sense.

This whole situation is ****ed from top to bottom, starting first and foremost with the wife and kids. They are tragic victims.

Some people are saying that friends, family and business associates failed Valero. I'm not claiming to know the answer, but let's not forget that Valero was supposed to go to rehab in Cuba but instead chose to get drunk and crash a car. That right there seems like Valero wasn't himself ready to get help. His celeb status and connects made it easier for him to get out of trouble, so mandatory forced help while incarcerated didn't happen (if that even exists). His wife and family were most likely scared to death of Valero. You might criticize that, but fear is real. Edwin Valero was a ticking time bomb. But he was also a family member. The fam must have had mixed emotions of fear, love, anxiety, etc. We don't know if the money from boxing that was coming in was something that made some people in the family not want to step in or if really they just couldn't do it without getting their ass beat or killed.

Many U.S. Commissions said Valero shouldn't be boxing after his head injury in the motorcycle accident. Yet, there was plenty of fans (me included) who enjoyed watching him fight and ignored the fact that a dangerous issue was being ignored.

So far as Arum doing whatever possible to squeeze every penny out of Valero, despite his conditions, well, that's to be expected and not too surprising.

In the end, Valero needed help but he chose alcohol to deal with his problems and now he and his wife are dead. He might have had mental issues, but if you can train, make weight and stay undefeated with all those KO's, you can't be a total lost nut case. Or can you? Having suffered a head injury and being a pro boxer you have to think (hope?) that he routinely got his head examined. Mental illness would have probably been detected. But who knows? Maybe the autopsy will show he was suffering from dementia?

Just a terrible chain of events. My condolences to the family.

The whole situation seems strange to say the least. Boxing is structured and requires discipline, which he had as it related to that part of his life. It seems to me that it's almost entirely impossible to help someone who seems so far removed from themselves, what could his family have done, aside from being thrown into the midst of his dysfunction. I'm not sure how that motorcycle may or may not have impacted his addiction, it's clear those around him had to know he was in need of treatment (not speaking about his wife or immediate family), they put business first and that's to bad, although we don't know all of the details yet as to whether or not help was indeed offered to Valero.

I feel sorry for him in some ways, certainly not to excuse his actions, you can be empathetic without being sympathetic towards his behavior, either way a sad story in too many ways to articulate here.

That's the third post of I've read from you blaming his wife. You're an *******. It's not like Valero has no history of abuse. Admire what he did in the ring. Outside of it he was a terrible person. I'm sick of reading post from the Valero apologist. This situation is what it is. He ruined the lives of his children and took an innocent like. Nobody has a right to do that. If he was so "sick" he had every opportunity to get help but didn't. He was lucid enough to know he didn't want to face the consequences. I admire his boxing skills but that's where it ends. he's going to get what's coming to him in the afterlife.

Does somebody finally know if the rumors that Valero was destroying De la Hoya in sparring before the Pac fight were true ??
