KELLY PAVLIK: Too big for 160...and not quite good enough for 168.

One of the contributors to Kel's failures in the last one-third of the Martinez fight may have been fatigue due to making weight. Of course, i am taking no credit away from Sergio, as Maravilla has long been one of my favourite fighters (unlike some of you bandwagoners).

At 168, I see Kelly having tons of problems with the guys there. Pavlik's big advantage at 160 was his size and strength. That goes away when he moves to SMW. Additionally, you would be making a slow fighter even slower.

Ward? Too good an all-around fighter for Kelly. SOG is too fast, too diirty, has the movement that confounds Pavlik, and is just plain wrong.

Froch: Better fight for Kelly. The Cobra isn't the most mobile cat, but he is tough and confident.

Dirrell: Pavlik would make a good fight for an earlier version of Dirrell. But the post-Abraham version is too fast, smarter, and has gained a ton of confidence.

Abraham: would be interesting to see. I haven't decided if Abe's tortoise defense and low workrate would play right into KP's hands. Plus, AA is short.

Green: If he can stop staring at his feet, too much movement. I need to see his next fight to be sure.

Kessler: He needs a bounceback. Still, I'd pick him to beat Pav.

Calzaghe: After seeing Hopkins and Martinez, is there any question that the Slappin' Welshman would have shut Kelly out? Lacy-stylee?

Bute: Two fights in a row where he has stopped guys by throwing punches from odd angles. A much better fighter than a year ago. I still question Lucian's stamina and chin, but he could confuse Pavlik with movement and boxing ability.

During post-fight interviews, DiBella said that they would HAPPILY give Kelly a rematch immediately. And Pavlik indicated that they would want to exercise that clause. My guess is that was just hurt-talk and Team Pav goes back and takes a really good look and decides to put Sergio in the rear view.

    Thoughts?
    I agree

I think he beats Froch by a TKO or wide margin (like Miranda Froch would be hand made for the Ghost)

And i think he outscores Abraham (to one-dimensional)

But i see no way Pavlik can win against Kessler he can not wear Kessler down like Taylor.

And he would get shooled by Ward and Dirrell.

Is there anyone who would view Kelly as a champion at 168 - even with some hardware?
He has to test wated at 168 first though bro, lets look who is available. Forget everybody about the super 6. He is not ready for Bute just yet. And, Bute might be busy with his mandatory between the winner of Brinkley and Bika. So all these fighters are busy.

The only one who is availabe is Steiglitz who is in the top 10 has a title, is the weakest champ in the division, and a very winnable fight for Pavlik to get his confidence up again.

Around this time the Super 6 would be in the final 4 round. Which means two fighters would of been eliminated and I think it will be Kessler and Green. Two guys with solid names and two guys who I think are also winnable fights for Pavlik.

A 154er did the same thing to kelly. At Kelly's preferred weight - not at 170.
        Can't say I didn't see this coming

            Yeah. You're right.

i didn't take into account the timing and elimination aspect of the SuperSix.

Dirrell, Ward, and Bute destroy Pavlik.

Abraham is a close fight, I'd take Pavlik if I know he is the same at 168.

Froch takes some big shots but is too stubborn and gets Pavlik late.

Kessler I don't know about, we'll see what he is now when he fights Froch.

Kessler seems like a better version of Pavlik in almost every department imo. I don't see him beating Kessler.

Bute vs Andrade I the KD seemed to be from exhaustion as much as from any punch. Bute took shots from Berrio, Bika, Miranda, Zuniga without getting hurt. I think he has a good chin.

Kelly has to think about his fanbase, and he needs a win. Bad. Last night, only half his usual crowd traveled to AC. With another loss, his fanbase is gone, and thus his HBO dates.

If i were Pavlik, i would go get Librado Andrade or somebody who is made for me.

Kelly has two ugly losses. While they were not brutal KO's or anything, they were the type of schoolings/beatings that rob your confidence.
Andrade is actually a really good matchup for him.

He should stay down at middleweight and rematch Martinez... he can't compete at 168 as you said his size and strength are his main attributes and he loses them. + you got a lot of skilled fast fighers who would give him hell in bute, Ward, Dirrel etc.

I don't believe that fatigue rubbish he was coming on strong 4 rounds in a row plus a KD, Martinez was not hurting him and then the cut came. Did everyone watch this fight drunk or stoned or something? it looked pretty clear the Cut was THE major factor in the fight, Pavlik was 1 up on my Scorecard before it happened.
You have to realize martinez was just rinsing and repeating with the same combination over and over again. Jab cross jab... jab cross jab.. jab cross jab cross.

He had landed it 4 times before the cut happened. Infact, he got cut BECAUSE martinez began flurrying and picking up the pace. had martinez not picked the pace up, the cut wouldn't have happened.

You clowns are acting like Pavlik got cut THEN martinez began to pour it on him. That isn't the case... he got cut BECAUSE martinez was pouring it on him. You can even argue that he took a round or 2 off so he COULD do what he did.

                    give ***y sergio his props
Exactly. But hey, these are the same idiots that say Klitschko-Lewis was a robbery. LOL If a punch opens up the cut, then it just means they got caught with something deadly. The result of the punch isn't gonna be pretty.

I think Kelly has a hard time at any weight against some one who moves well, like Ali did
