I can think of 2 robberies right now. Freddie Norwood was very badly fouled by Derrick "Smoke" Gainer, but because of the blind and unfair ref, HE was penalised, then was hit so low that it practically broke his kneecap. YET.... it was Freddie who was penalised, and lost both his unbeaten record and his long-time title, when he couldn't get up after a count of 20. The ref said he wasn't sure he saw anything............????
Then there was Emmanuel Augustus-Courtney Burton, where Augustus boxed rings around Burton, but because of a hopeless ref (I think he was barred after that) was penalised very unjustly several times, and lost the fight. it was in this fight that Teddy Atlas asked a State boxing commission guy a question and got an answer which showed everyone that the guy knew NOTHING about boxing. Atlas really showed him up. You guys should look up this fight, it'll be an education.
There was such an outcry about this fight that Emmanuel got a rematch, and knocked Burton out. Very satisfying for him, and Emmanuel's fans no doubt.
The biggest robbery in the last decade? The one that stands out to me is Casamayor-Santa Cruz...
They might be another worst just can't think of any right now.
i swear to ****ing god as soon as i saw this thread i thought about that fight. jesus christ i still cannot get over it, i think i almost puked that night out of repulsiveness.
Andrade pummeled Bute in that last round, deserved a TKO as Bute was all over the place and defenceless, it should have been stopped......but then when Andrade gets a legit KO the ref doesn't even start counting and Bute gets like a 15 count which takes it the end of the fight, then wins a decision.
Maidana vs. Kotelnik was clearly a robbery and Maidana still deserves to be undefeated. That's not the biggest robbery of the past ten years but tarnishing a fighters unbeaten record is abhorrent.
