i think 2 points is fair. this needs to be nipped in the bud as we english say, before everyone starts to do it. it's a good old pro's trick but it's open to exploitation.

My friend had this idea so I can't take credit for it. The ref has two mouthguards one in each shirt pocket one for the red corner the other for the blue corner. The fighters provide the mouthguard and the ref handles putting it in. No walking to the corner to have the trainer put it in. He also suggested that action should not be stopped to deduct a point when a foul is not a time issue for the person fouled (ie spitting out mouthguard) and only stopped to give the fouled person a rest. The ref would let the crowd and the judges know between rounds. I agree with both positions.

Why can't the referee be allowed top put back the same mouthpiece in the fighter's mouth?

How and the fu** would castillo have won other wise, you act like the ref put the mouthpiece back in before he started counting...What's the main thing they say in boxing..."A boxer is the most dangerous when they are hurt" I think castillo forgot about that and ran up on some bombs and got quitted in the fight...
Look dumbass, its time for you to watch the fight again because you were too busy swinging from corrales nuts. He lost the mouthpiece three times, the last two times in the final round.

And you know Castillo would have won if your boyfriend wasn't milking the clock by spitting the mouthpiece. He did a faceplant twice to the canvas and 2 full 8 counts, then the ref doesn't even let Castillo who never been knocked down EVER get a chance to hit the canvas and get an 8 count? That's bull****.

          Tell me another one, dip****.

What Corrales did that night was unacceptable. I will never forgive him for that.

The first time he did it was acceptable, because the mouthpiece looked like it was on it's way out anyway and he kind of just pushed it out, but after seeing him put his glove to his mouth and then take it out and throw it on the floor I was shocked.

Good rule that should have a fighter think twice about it. Though if a fighter is far behind by the 8th or 9th round, they may not give two craps about winning on the cards and may do it for a knockout.
Okay, great..then what? What if he continues to spit it out or take it out? How many times should they be allowed to 'buy time' that way before being DQ'ed? All of that was bad enough, but then Diego said on FNF that wasnt why he did it, and that he really did drop it the second time (yeah, right) etc...which pissed me off. Didnt expect much else from him really.

Bah nonsense...why should that type of fight tactic delay be any worse than excessive holding, intentional headbutting, low blows, bad wraps ...etc.

Headbutting is a dangerous foul, but I've never heard of it being done to buy time. Excessive holding is done for different reasons too; from exhaustion, from needing to clear the head, etc. Hand raps? How is that used to buy time?
When one fighter would have clearly lost a fight had he not been given extra time to clean and replace a mouthpiece then it's serious enough to do something about it I think.

Thats dumb. that only gives more time.. they should make him fight without it untill there is a real stop in the action not caused by a KD.
