Kessler's ex-trainer: "Mikkel should quit boxing!"

Danish site kanalsport.dk today brings an interview with Ricard Olsen who's the long-time former trainer of Mikkel Kessler.

"I wouldn't say he's finished. But he's not the fighter he once was. That's due to the wear and tear he has put on his body over the years. He no longer pocessess the necessary spark. That's a damn shame."

Olsen adds: "I've told him to quit boxing. It's not everything in life. I still think he can beat Froch but I'm not sure about the tournament."

"Even after an eventual defeat to Froch I doubt Mikkel will quit. He'll keep on going untill his face is in the canvas. Boxing is all he knows."

Hmm might explain why Kessler seems to give up in fights when you've got this joker in your corner.

Gives up? He never quits. He'll continue untill the bitter end. He just needs to be better at adapting.

Froch-Kessler will be an amazing fight and I'll root for Kessler. The Ward fight was embarrassing though, Ward dominated him.

Still I must say that Olsen's comments are inappropriate. He should have kept his mouth shut untill Kessler had lost to Froch (if that happens).

Now I see where Kessler got the "I Quit" attitude from.

You are a serious Kessler nuthugger. But yet you critisice Jones Jr and Mayweather, two fighters who are in different leagues that Kessler.

Can you imagine what a prime Jones Jr would of done to Kessler at 168lb?

And even Mayweather on his worst day, is ten times better than Kessler!

Did I ever compare Kessler to those two?

I don't agree that he should retire now, though I don't blame this guy for these comments if he was in the corner for the Ward fight as he was one of the many people Kessler threw under the bus after the fight.

Kessler should be able to get by Froch but honestly what is really the best case scenario for him? Ward is going to advance and is only getting better. We've already seen that Kessler cannot even hold Ward's jockstrap much less beat him in a fight.

Kessler getting worse and the guy who whooped him getting better means that 2nd place is the best he can honestly hope for and I think that is really pushing it.

This tourney is gonna take another 16-20 months to complete and Kessler is the only one left who is clearly on the downside of his career. I see no reason he shouldn't finish out the tourney and make some money, but winning the thing? That's a pipe dream for him at this point, which I think is really what Olsen means when he says he should hang em up now.

Yeah thats what i mean, he mentally folds when plan A doesnt work. Cant be best to have had this guy in his corner.
