Vicente "El Loco" Mosquera, Ex-Boxing Champ, Involved in Shooting Death in Panama

"El Loco" killed a man in Puerto," was the rumor making the rounds yesterday in La Chorrera and apparently it was not just idle gossip. Ex-world boxing champion Vicente "El Loco" Mosquera has been tied to the death of 29 year-old Antonio Trejos, a resident of Puerto Caimito who went by the nickname "Chupampa." When asked about the case the national police only said that the case would be handled in Panama City and in the press office there was no information available. Jaime Maning, a cousin of "Chupampa", told the Panama America newspaper that everything was calm Saturday night in the area near the beach in Puerto Caimito until "El Loco" Mosquera arrived, "with four other guys, among them the boxer Maco Arboleda." Everyone was looking at Mosquera and exchanging looks and glares. He said that even at one point some police officers were in the area and Mosquera told them "what are you looking at?" Maning said that at some point "El Loco" threw a bottle which cut open his forehead, triggering a fight between his cousins and those who were with Mosquera.

"Then everything calmed down, and we were going on our way when "El Loco" started shooting, and I didn't know that my cousin was shot until I arrived at the hospital and saw that he was dead," he said.

Things were so crazy in Puerto Caimito that the mother of "El Loco" Andrea Mena showed up and hit Maning in the head with a baseball bat, minutes after he had been hit in the head by the bottle thrown by "El Loco."

According to Maning "El Loco" has been causing problems since last Thursday when he arrived at Puerto Caimito where some people were playing dice and he pulled out his pistol and put it on the ground several times.

He added that "El Loco" went around aiming the pistol at several people including a boy with the nickname "El Chino" and threatened to shoot him. According to witnesses on Sunday Mosquera was annoyed with jealousy after his ex-girlfriend Anayka broke up with him. Unconfirmed versions of the events indicate that supposedly before the incident near the beach occurred where "Chupampa" was killed, "El Loco" had put his pistol to his ex-girlfriend's head.

Yesterday afternoon rumors in Puerto Caimito were flying that the one who had shot and killed "Chupampa" was a cousin of "El Loco" who goes by the nickname "Popeye".

Attempts to obtain the version of events from "El Loco" Mosquera and his family were impossible because his mother had been taken in the early morning hours by a police patrol car and the house was closed.

Aura de ****llón, the grieving mother of the victim, said she is hoping for justice because the person that was killed was a human being, not a dog. She said her family has never had any problems with Vicente Mosquera even though every time he returns to Puerto Camitio he causes problems with someone "because when he drinks he gets crazy."

Yo if this is true this muthafuca is truly bonkers. LOL, he is a live wire.

i don't think there's any way you can spend that many years locked up and not lose a lot of your skills. the man spent pretty much his entire prime eating prison food and getting half of a real workout. if he trained at all.

did the fact that he fought at 130 and now weighs over two bills give you that idea perhaps?

Mosquera finally had his first fight since coming back. Happened yesterday down in Panama, he won by mid-rounds stoppage.

It'll be interesting to see what Loco can do, if he can be a legit contender again.

Definitely a tough guy. Man walked through Valero bombs and dished hard shots himself all night.
