Mayweather-Pacquiao in Jeopardy Over Drug Test - Merged Thread:

haven't read the whole thread, but I read another article and find the fact that Roach is calling Mayweather a coward pretty funny.

**Didn't Roach say plenty of times pre and post Cotto fight that the catchweight was used specifically to drain Cotto?

so if Mayweather's a coward for asking for this pre-fight blood test, then what does that make Roach?

I see the intelligence in your posts, I'm not saying you can't feel the way you do, but I don't agree with your logic that, because Manny hasn't been caught doping up to this point, asking for additional testing is baseless.

That would be like going back to the Mosley-Margarito fight and saying, because Antonio Margarito had never had problems with the illegality of his hand wraps before, that the intense scrutiny the Mosley camp put on him before the fight was baseless and without merit.

If you suspect something is foul, in a sport where two men engage in violent combat, it is extremely important to err on the side of caution. That's just the way it is.

You can't say, 'he's never been caught doping, so he must not be'.

I like Manny...but...this looks bad. EPO and other substances, and the way coaches and athletes get away with using them, seem to be very relevant to Roach's problems with this testing.
I think there is a strong distinction to be drawn here in that observing handwrapping is standard procedure which occurs with every fight, whereas random urine and blood sampling is anything but. The Pac. side has already agreed to testing which is above and beyond the normal standards, yet because they haven't agreed to the full extent of the Mayweather camp's unprecedentedly stringent demands, the Mayweather camp is running to the press and crying foul. My main point is, what gives them the right to devise such terms in the first place. I say it as manipulative to say the least.

To me the testing is almost a separate issue, which the Mayweather camp is using as a means to disparage Pac. through the press (in other words, I think this is a 'strawman attack' from the Mayweather side). Now, I'm perfectly willing to acknowledge that I do not have all of the facts and this is largely my opinion, but I somehow find it unlikely that the gripes expressed in the GBP press release are whole-heartedly legitimate, and are not the product of a smear campaign. It basically wreaks of **** from the Mayweather camp to me, and I see no reason to disparage Pac. on the basis of a GBP press release, when Pac's camp's position, as expressed by roach from the initial publication of the testing 'issue' has not change.

On the issue of the testing, I'm rather neutral, however I think that industry precedent is of relevance, and that one side cannot simply dictate the terms.

In reality, this seems like a political issue. The Pac. side doesn't want to merely give in to the Mayweather side's demands, and rightfully so. I think the issue more has to do with Mayweather's side, on a whim, demanding a condition in which Pac., during camp, is subjected to random blood testing. Hell, as regards the harmony of training, I could see a psychological issue here. Say Manny really doesn't like having blood drawn (hell, who does), I could see it as a potential distraction, that being the spectre of having a medic show up at any given time to stick a needle in his blood vein (I don't know the actual testing schedule, but I did here an interview of an Olympic athlete in which he referred to being woken up very early in the morning to give his sample).

I really tend to see this as strong-arm tactics from the Mayweather camp, probably in an attempt to gain a psychological edge. That however is just my opinion.

The fact is, the Nevada and California state boxing comissions failed, despite having officials oversee the Antonio Margarito hand wraps, to catch him cheating. That was only done when, due to su****ion, ****m Richardson, put ADDED scrutiny, above and beyond the state comission- and caught foul play.

Arguing that, because the industry standard is 'x', we should always be fine with that would mean Margarito would have never been subjected to additional attention by Shane's camp. This isn't an issue where Floyd is asking something other athletes in other sports would find ridiculous; boxing lags behind in using instant replay, in creating a central, federal commission, etc.

If Floyd undergoes the same testing, I see no reason this should be such an issue. Hopefully Manny Pacquiao will agree and we'll proceed as planned...

I've never accused Manny of taking steroids but him doing this is strange. I mean, if he has a blood test it isn't like they are going to take much blood from him, it isn't like they take a pint of it (well I assume, correct me if I am wrong) and anyway, Floyd will be undertaking the tests too so he would be having the exact same "disadvantage" cause both fighters will be having blood withdrawn from them.

Come on Manny, I don't think hes on steroids but this is the perfect opportunity to prove it end of story.

I will be pissed off if Pacquiao is on Steroid tbh

Surely doing the drug testing after the fight would fine?

Im not sure about how the whole thing works and if the sample maybe some how effected if taken after the fight. It does seem like Mayweather is stalling abit though
