Personally I don't care either, except for the people who think Duran actually hails from Mexico.
Let's say me, i have PR blood because of my mother, let's say some one tells me "go back to PR!" or "look at this Rican" or oh "Kevin the rican kid?"

I would not get mad at any of that because I do have rican blood.

**** i've been through worse accusations. In HS, classmates would tease me to go back to Italy when i'm not even Italian or have any Italian blood in me, none at all. I have also been called Colombian many times and I don't get mad, no Colombian blood in me whatsoever. My boys always tease me telling me to go back to Italy.

So yeah I guess if you call Duran a Mexican I don't think he'll get as defensive as his fans get because he knows Mexican is in his blood.

The way Burner and Toney said it was more like the latter.
I meant to quote you on this one not the other one.

Nope. Most would consider you Italian-American.

There's a big difference though if someone says you're Italian and implies that you live, work, play in Italy.

Duran's case is even more specific and therefore more confusing since he's only half. This topic has basically been covered in a previous thread so we're really just beating a dead horse here.

Here's the thread if you want to check it out.

I have a friend who is Puerto Rican but was raised in Washington Heights NY. He denies being Rican and he actually hates them. He threw a brick at a car with a Rican flag passing by our neighborhood in the PR parade 2 years ago.

It depends how nationalistic he is. By saying that he's Mexican, it deprives Panama of one of its greatest heroes.

This whole ethnic blood thing is kind of silly to be honest. Blood is red and comes in type A, B, AB and O. There really is no such thing as "Mexican blood". Even if there was, Duran talks nothing like a Mexican would, except for the common language of Spanish, Panamanian dialect is different. He doesn't share much or any at all of the culture. He also doesn't act much like a typical Mexican. Same goes for anyone really.

It gets annoying sometimes when people think I need to have some kind of nationalistic pride for Mexico just because I have Mexican heritage. I have nothing in common with the average Mexican . I'm proud of being American and living the American way of life.

Your friend probably got sick and tired of people pushing him to wear PR flag underwear, shirt, socks, shoes, belt even though he's been raised in the U.S. and has never been to Puerto Rico.

Well yes. How many African Americans have been to Africa?

You brought up in philly, you a philly fighter.

You brought up in the UK, you're a Brit.

Kessler is half brit, but he is called the danish warrior.

If an African american was brought up since birth in Africa, he won't be saying he is african american imo.

He considered himself from panama and that is enough for me.

                  Amen to that.

Anytime I am asked what I am I just say i'm a New Yorker/American and I never really get in to any details if i'm asked where i;m from originally. I don't act Dominican, don't look Dominican, and in school when I would say i'm Dominican no one believes me so i said *** it then i'm not! I'm whatever you say I am. If you don;t look hispanic and people don't believe you are then *** it just say you're American

                  LOL

The great thing about being American is that no one really knows what an American looks like. LOL

Americans are a little bit of everything. It's a melting pot of ethnic backgrounds.
