WBC/WBA super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (33-2-1, 26 KOs) scored a spectacular second round KO over WBC interim super flyweight champion Tomas Rojas (32-11-1, 22 KOs). A good action fight ended when Darchinyan connected with a straight left that put Rojas down for the count at the 2:54 mark.
Welterweight Leonardo Zappavigna (22-0, 15 KO’s) won a one-sided six round unanimous decision over Sergio Macias. Zappavigna came out strong and landed wide, yet vicious hooks and crosses to the head. Macias (14-19, 6 KO’s) was stunned at times, but never went down. All three judges scored the bout 60-54 in favor of Zappavigna. This was the first bout in the United States for the Australian-born Zappavigna.

Featherweight Salvador Sanchez (18-3-2, 8 KO’s) won a six round majority decision over Rodrigo Aranda. Aranda (8-12-2, 2 KO’s) was able to land with counter right hands early in the fight. Sanchez came on strong in the second half of the fight, going to the body and following up to the head. One judge scored the bout 57-57, but the other two judges scored the bout 60-54 and 59-55. Sanchez claims to the be the nephew of the late Hall of Fame fighter.

Welterweight Freddy Hernandez (27-1, 18 KO’s) won a hard-fought eight round unanimous decision over brawler Octavio Narvaez. The shorter Narvaez pressed the action early against Hernandez, but was outgunned by the stronger Hernandez, who had Narvaez hurt in the final round. All three judges had Hernandez winning by scores of 78-74, 78-74, and 80-72.

With Freddie Roach in his corner, Heavyweight Lateef Kayode (9-0, 8 KO’s) stopped Billy Willis in the second round of a scheduled six round bout. Kayode dropped Willis (11-19-1, 9 KO’s) with a right hand in the first round and finished him off with a combination to the head in the second, prompting referee Dr. Lou Moret stopped the bout at 1:14.
