The United States Court of Appeals today upheld boxing promoter Lou DiBella's original $610,000 libel judgment against undisputed middleweight champion Bernarnd Hopkins, but rejected appeals from both parties. DiBella appealed the judgment, agruing that Hopkins should have been found guilty of additional libelous statements. Hopkins cross-appealed the judgment, offering seven agruments for a reversal. In the end, the court ruled that the original judgment stands, writing in a forty-page decision that there is "ample evidence from which the jury could have concluded that Hopkins acted with hatred, ill will, and spite, and delibrately attempted to injure DiBella."
