Is Age 22 to Old to Start a Boxing Career?
Collapse

Hopkins, Foreman, Holyfield, Johnson, Moore, Duran all had successful (or lucrative) careers well into their 40's or beyond. Matt Skelton turned pro at 35 without a am career (boxing, he did some kickboxing prior,) and earned a title shot. Hell no 22 is not too old, if you train hard and learn quickly, turn pro in you late 20s, you could still have a pretty good career. Lots of guys these days are winning their first titles in their 30's: Carl Froch, Sergio Martinez, Nikolay Valuev, etc. Good luck.

Definitely not too old. I am also 22 and just started boxing, although I have not fought yet I am still in training. There are guys in my gym that are 24-27 that only started fighting this year. It may be a late start if you want to go pro since most pros have extensive amateur careers but 22 is still young and not too late to start. I say go for it.

i am 23 and want to start boxing as well, but have never previously had experience doing so. have played football (proper) my entire life. set a goal for january to get my conditioning back to where it used to be. should be an interesting experience regardless what happens.

NO, of course not. Some of the best boxers of today didn't even walk into a boxing until their mid-twenties.
Nate Campbell had never boxed until he walked into a gym at 25!
Veeraphol Sahaprom, one of the greatest BW's ever, didn't start boxing until his late twenties!!!! When he turned pro he won a world title in his fourth fight!
If you've been boxing/training since fifteen, there is no problem whatsoever. That's completely normal.
