According to Clottey, he needed a few more weeks to train. But, at the same time he made it clear that an offer of $650K is not enough to close the deal - unless the fight is pushed back to a later date. Clottey cited a few of his personal concerns, including several days of absence from the gym. He appeared to be concerned that his new trainer had already flown back to Africa. [details]

Clottey got a yellow stomach. That's all there is to it. And why don't people give Paul Williams his props for avenging his loss to Quintana? So I guess Joe Louis doesn't deserve credit for beating Schmelling in the rematch just because it was a first round KO. I guess Roy Jones doesn't deserve credit for beating Montell Griffin by first round KO. That it the most straightforward way to beat an opponent as it gets. When is Cotto gonna avenge the loss to the guy who made him quit?

Come on, 650k to anyone of Clottey level is insulting, especially to a guy who for all intents and purposes beat Cotto.

How's it insulting when it's more then what he got when he "for all intents and purposes," beat Cotto?

He didn't even make 650k against Cotto while Williams got paid 1.5 mill or 2 mill to fight Winky. It's called realizing what your market value is worth and how much the other guy is in demand by the TV networks. Remember, this date does not belong to Top Rank. Goosen is the main promoter of it. Clottey lost out, and Martinez ate his bread.
