According to Cotto's trainer (his uncle) the rematch against Chop is not going to take place because HBO did not like it. Cotto's team was allegedly willing to give the rematch to Chop to disipate any doubts but HBO said no. Cotto will figth Abdulaev. This fighter born in Uzbekistan but lives in Germany, is 31 years old, and his record is 15-1 w/ 12 KO. One of his accomplishments was to defeat Cotto during the 00 olimpics enroute to win the gold medal (139 lbs). Boxrec has him ranked 35 in the world. I don't know much more about this give nor have seem him fighting before. Comments!

Did HBO say no because they didnt like the fight or did they say no because they saw what Chop did to there golden boy last time and didnt want to risk it again?

Anyways, this should be a good fight. I havent seen much of Abdulaev but from what I have seen he looks very good. I know most of you probally think that he's even better then Chop

I do have a question though. In the fight that Abdulaev lost, which I think was to Clottey, what happened? I know that he was winning almost every round and I know he took the knee just for a break and didnt understand to get up in time but my question is, why did he take a knee? Was he really hurt that much by Clottey of all people that he had to take a knee? If Clottey can hurt him to the point were he feels like he needs to take a knee then he should stay away from Cotto.

I dont know though. I havent seen him enough. I think he is good enough for alot of people to pick a upset and he did beat Cotto in the amatures so it should be good

Abdulaev has the tools and skills to outbox Cotto.The question is,does he have the chin and heart it takes to do it.I think this is a better matchup than Cotto-Corley,because Corley is just too small and would probably get Kayoed.Abdulaevs win over Cotto in the Amatuers makes the fight a little more interesting.

I remember seeing a clip of Abdulaev's KO loss to Clottey.It appeared that Abdulaev took a knee to regroup(which was counted as a KD),and he looked over to his corner for advise and what not.As he was doing this,the ref was counting, and Abdulaev either lost focus or he couldn't hear the count over the crowds noise.Therefore he got counted out.Right after, he seemed surprise,and immediatly debated the fact that he was counted out.Seemed more like a fluke KO loss IMO.

Harris is not mentioned by the newspaper, and I don't know if they are avoiding him but I read that Harris would not be available for the timeframe they have the fight schedules. This could be an excuse but from what I read about Harris hes got a big mouth. Time will tell.

Ugh.This is a step back for cotto i think,I really think Abv is outmatched,maybe he can beat cotto if he's a hungry fighter,but i doubt it, he has a solid record,but he's been so inactive,i havent seen him fight much though,so we'll see i guess, i really wanted to see cotto fight harris,oh well,Abv looks strong,but i think cotto's gonna stop him without too much trouble.

I didnt see it,but this sums up what Ive read in a few places "the bout took a dramatic turn with less than a minute remaining in the tenth when Clottey hammered Abdulaev, who was bleeding from a cut over his right eye with a searing left hook to the jaw. The punch stunned Abdulaev and Clottey followed up with a flurry of shots including another wicked left hook to the side of the skull.

The heavily favored Abdulaev tumbled to the deck and fell partially through the ropes. With blood streaming down his face, Abdulaev regained his feet but with his corner screaming at him to take a knee the former amateur star knelt back down on the canvas.
