IMO this is akin to a soldier sitting on a cozy military base in his homeland, saying he's not missing being part of the war his brothers in arms are fighting halfway across th world.

Understandable to an extent, but cowardly all the same.

What's the deal with him? He's only fought once in the last year?

Dude I dont know, but I will find out. They are blowing it because this guy isn't young, past his 30's, he has atleast enough skills to fight for a championsip. Yvon Michele should start hyping him up so he could eventually face Bute and have another super fight in Montreal, though I think he would be in the losing end of that one.

Stevenson was injured for the past year and just came back.

Bute can certainly stay relevant in the division by fighting the other top 168's that are not part of the tournament, but he needs to move on from fighting the types of opponents like Joppy/Zuniga.

The same people criticizing Bute now would be blasting him if he had not re-matched Andrade.

Why pass up an opportunity like this, which might not get you as much money as the rematch with Andrade, but will more than make up for it in the world exposure, the lineal championship and eventually bigger paydays down the line?

Read the article again, it says HBO paid Bute a good amount of money to woo him from Showtime.

Seems to me as another classical example of a fighter playing it "safe".

I swear this is the only sport where this is allowed to happen. You watch Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Football and the best teams compete against the best. You have the NBA Finals, World Series, Champions League, NFL, etc.

I think all the greed in the sport is what doesn't make this sport as big as it could be.

I agree that he is being protected. If it had not been for the crooked ref, he would have lost to Andrade in their first fight and Andrade is not that good. He is only giving Andrade a rematch because he has no choice. He would much rather fight soup cans like Calzaghe did for most of his career. He is a mediocre fighter with a good following in his hometown. If he had fought in the Super 6 tournament, he would probably have lost against every opponent. Staying out of the tournament is in his best interest, but he will be exposed, if not by Andrade, by another decent 168-pounder. Hopefully, it will be Allan Green since he is not in the tournament either.

Did you read the article? Bute himself strongly implies that he was offered a place but turned it down, although it's possible that he was misquoted.

I'm sceptical about the article, though. If that were true, why would Showtime play along with it and pretend that they didn't offer him a place when they did? That seems very odd to me. TBH I don't know what to make of this article.

The Bute situation in regards to the Super Six is sort of confusing.

Hershman said at the NYC presser that he was not invited, Interbox or Bute's match maker released a statement saying they weren't invited, and now this says HBO tempted Bute. Also, I remember reading that Richard Schafaer told Dan Refael that while the Super Six is a great idea, he wished Andrade and Bute would've been involved.

                    I guess it's all speculation.

                      Unless I'm missing something
Turning down such an oportunity would strike me as bad management.
The super 6 tournement will strech up to 2011
Whether Bute looses or wins against Andrade.... who will he fight next
5 of the top contenders won't be availlable to fight until 2011
