Originally posted by S a m u r a i View PostI wasn't dis*****g the fact that he neglected his training, Dave, although from how I put it you can be forgiven for thinking that. Contrary, I have read a few articles and seen Manny Steward talking about that. I just don't believe it was the reason he lost.
I agree that Barrera had the perfect game plan for him, though.
Originally posted by S a m u r a i View PostIt's possible, I won't doubt that. Let's be honest -- if you simply dislike a fighter's style (and persona, in my case), it's sometimes hard to give them any credit at all. The Calzaghe haters ought to admit to this. I will certainly admit to being biased against Hamed, partly due to personal reasons (which I won't go into here), and partly just because style-wise, and ego-wise, I find him incredibly irritating. If I watched his fights, I'd want to beat the **** out of him even before he stepped in the ring. The ring walk was enough to rile me. Strange reaction? Probably. I just always thought he was rubbish and had no right to act like he was anything special.
Did you see this poll about whether he'd get HoF induction in his first year of eligibility? To me the surprising thing isn't the fact that he didn't, but the fact that 23% of boxing writers in the poll thought that he should - including, according to the article, "some of the biggest names that exist in terms of professional boxing writers", who it says "were emphatic with their yes votes".
And he dominated his division for a long time. And it wasn't a particularly weak division, although it's true that Barrera was easily his classiest opponent. But his achievements were still very solid indeed.Last edited by Dave Rado; 10-20-2009, 11:32 PM.

kessler wont get past andre ward bottom line.. they need to stop looking past ward who is the most skilled fighter in this tournament. 10k on ward ud over kessler... wont be any froch luck in this fight because the fight takes place in the states.. none of that bs european judging that screwed dirrel. also kessler would destroy froch in 3!!

Interesting to hear Froch actually wants to box Kessler for the first few rounds. Now people, Froch has an underrated jab which can be used effectively at distance, if the opposition isn't on his bike for the whole fight. Kessler will bring a fight to Froch, so will be there to be hit, problem for Froch is, Kessler has a good defense, and Froch is much slower then Mikkel. I'm not sure if boxing Kessler gives Carl much chance.
Kessler is better then Froch in my opinion in every department (including Froch's best assets - chin and power)........now if both men decide to trade heavily like the Froch/Pascal fight then Carl has a chance, albeit very little.
As long as Froch keeps good composure and doesn't get drifted into a battle as he wants, he should see all 12 rounds, but lose a wide decision. If he wants to trade from go, i see Kessler eventually breaking him down, as he has great ringsmarts, and stopping Carl in 10.
In a trade-off Froch stands a chance of stopping Mikkel, but nobody else has even dropped the Dane, and i don't see Froch doing it. I hope i'm proven wrong, as Froch is my boy, but i am an unbiased fan, and a realist.
