They are now calling him a top 10 HW of all time and likely beating any HW that lived, based on 7 fights at HW and beating up two overhyped UK fighters. Its comical. They are also trying to pretend his run at cruiser counts as HW compared to the 70s and that even Briedis would be a top 70s HW. Even calling usyk an ATG is too much imo for a guy with only 23 pro fights and a resume that is strong but not spectacular. These fan boys might overtake the Canelo ones.

Usyk fanboys are getting out of control

It's a few things, extreme recency bias combined with still having the 0, as well as beating two fighters recently who a lot of people HATE, so they are extremely happy that Usyk beat them.
Usyk is clearly an exceptionally talented fighter and he has some very impressive wins, but...... If we are being really serious here he's very hard to rank historically because his best win is Tyson Fury and his second best win is AJ.
Those aren't great fighters, the problem is there are no great fighters around right now to provide a true barometer on Usyk.
For me, if a fighter like Fury is able to take 8 or 9 rounds off you out of 24, there's no way I can make you nailed on to beat the truly elite all time great heavyweights. You can make a case for him against some, sure but it's not an easy case
He's winning fights off stamina, chin and heart more than anything lately, while his opponents are fresh they are in the fight with him and he is splitting rounds with them early, but he has better stamina than the big slugs and so he walks fights in the second half.
If he's in there with greats from the past who did FIFTEEN ROUNDS at a high pace he loses that advantage and what happens then? He doesn't have ko power either.. is Usyk outboxing Ali over 15? Not for me. Is George Foreman or Joe Frazier, Tyson or Holyfield going to be put off coming forward by Usyks power? Not for me, has Usyk shown me anything to prove he can deal with Liston, Lewis or Wlads jab? Not decisively no.
This era of heavyweight boxing is so bad that historically I rank Fury around Razor Ruddock or Ray Mercer level and yes I'm being serious, he lost to John McDermott and should have lost to Wallin and Ngannou and should be like 22-5 right now. So no I won't go overboard calling Usyk the H2H GOAT
Anyway, Usyk, excellent fighter, ATG but I agree with OP the mystique around him is overboard.Last edited by NihonJim; 12-23-2024, 11:42 PM.PerfectJab Oracle01 like this.

Does Henry Cooper feature in your top ten all-time greats list? Furthermore, would you argue that Oleksandr Usyk might perform more effectively against a prime Mike Tyson than Henry Tillman or Tony Tucker did? Lastly, what specific opponent did Tyson decisively defeat before his loss to Buster Douglas that you believe substantiates a stronger resume compared to Usyk's accomplishments?

Henry Cooper’s ability to knock down Muhammad Ali invites an intriguing comparison: might a fighter of Oleksandr Usyk’s caliber—a southpaw, Olympic gold medalist, and undisputed champion at both cruiserweight and heavyweight—have performed even better under similar circumstances? If not, do YOU thereby suggest that modern boxing has regressed to the point where its most celebrated champions are arguably less formidable than the journeymen of the 1960s?Citizen Koba Damn Wicked like this.
