    Where were you??

    WHERE WERE YOU???
    1. Roy Jones-Park Si-Hun Olympic gold medal bout, September 29, 1988. I watched it in the TV aisle while working at K-Mart...thought he won for sure...friend of mine (Mark) in Cameras and ***elry yelled over, asked how its going. He knew I had sparred Roy just three months earlier and that I was into the fight.

    "Roy's winning easily."

A few minutes later I yelled so loud in reaction to the decision that my friend ran over to find out what was going on.

    2. CURRY-HONEYGHAN at Chris Beverage's house with Clayton Gilcris and Mark Pascuccio, September 27, 1986.
Didn't see that one coming at all.

    3. Tyson-Douglas, Apt. on Hughes Street in Hartford, February 11, 1990. Didn't even watch the fight, thought it was going to be easy for Mike. Actually went out that night with my friend to eat...on the way there I was telling him that I wanted to break up with my girlfriend at the time, she should have been there with us -it was close to Valentines- but where was she? I had no idea. I spent the whole car ride to Red Lobster telling him how I didn't want to be with her anymore.

We walk in and there she is, waiting for us, as a surprise for me.

I whispered to him, "OK, forget everything I said in the car."

Went to my apartment after, walked in, turned the TV on and they were doing the post fight interview after Douglas KO'd Tyson. Couldn't believe it.
(I remember I ate Hush Puppies for the first time that night)

    4. Curry-McCrory, undisputed welterweight title, December 6, 1985, watched with Chris Lombardi at his house on Pheasant Run in Newington...I remember we ordered a Dominoes pizza and 2 cokes.

    5. Holmes-Spinks 1, September 21, 1985, watched at Calvin Smith's house after playing basketball at Custer Park 50 yards away. A few of us were there, Albert Graham (RIP, 2024) included. I remember thinking Spinks fought a PERFECT fight.

Good stuff Iceman. You got a great memory too. Being at the right place at the right time & focused is half the battle I guess.
Red Lobster on the Silas Dean!
Did you marry the girl? Loyalty is a keeper.

Our buddy Moochie caught up with Honeyghan though, huh?

Great random post by the Iceman.
      1) I remember watching at home and if I recall correctly, I was fairly young, around 12 or so), RJJ stayed in the ring in protest after the decision.
      3) watching at home on HBO, I remember going crazy (I was young) during the knockdowns. Still remember how pale Don King looked at ringside.
      5) Didn't see it but remember reading about it in the newspaper the following day.

I like to think of myself as having been around a while and ive followed boxing for 25 years but this is way before my era.

earliest boxing news I can remember in real time is when Tyson bit holyfields ear it was all over the news. i knew mike tyson went to jail but i was pretty young when the news broke, i remember asking my parents what **** was and they gave me some very PC friendly explanation due to my age. now Im adult and know what gold diggers and false accusations are.

this was at the Red Lobster in West Hartford just across Park Road. I absolutely did not marry that girl. She turned out to be kind of evil. And Marlon definitely caught up to Lloyd in 1989.

                  Great post Iceman.

not my earliest but the one that stands out most in recent memory:

                  Pac V Marquez 4 - 8th December 2012

Me and my mrs were living in west Australia backpacking and living in a hostel while working in a Abattoir. me and some irish lads convinced the hostel owner to buy the PPV and put it on a massive projector. I was a big pac fan and put down 50 bucks on him to win by KO. In hindsight i wish i hadnt because i couldn't fully enjoy the epic fight as i was so pissed about my bet

                    - - 1. Stopped watching fake Olympic boxing ages before Roy's loss.

                    2. Curry had fired his mgr and trainer as I recall as he was the new puffed up P4P King that distracted him from his boxing skills. Still, Brits then had soft chin reputations that the new generation was just starting to overcome, so yeah, a bit of a surprise.

                    3. Predictable loss with Mike in freefall from machinations of DKing, Givens, and her witchy mother. Douglas was very underrated by the usual suspects while Mike was getting KDed in camp by McCall while on dangerous experimental Pyschotropic Sedatives to keep him from more assaultive meltdowns while in Japan. Watch the fight! He was total Zombie and like his hero Dempsey robbed with a 14 sec KO win by an incompetent ref with no rematch.

                    4. I picked Curry and so wasn't surprised.

                    5. Hate to say I picked Mike that makes me look like a seer, but clearly Tubby Lar who used to be skinny was struggling to lift Rocky's jock strap after looking like shyte against novice Witherspoon and busted up and needing robbery vs Carl Williams. Mike Spinks was better than anyone he ever faced and basically froze Lar in place.

Yeah, boxing crazy then and now in perpetuity it would appear. Take it easy with Beter in training. He old man now prone to injuries and needs to have something for fight night where he can use his experience. Hope he retires undefeated as a hero of his people currently downtrodden by global forces.
