Comments Thread For: Despite Turki Alalshikh's claim, Aug. 3 show was sellout in name only

In the days before a pivotal Aug. 3 Los Angeles card, Saudi Arabia's boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh announced that the show had sold out. But that fact should come with an asterisk.

How could a card featuring so many good fighters not sell out in one of the most heavily populated cities in America ? Maybe being held outdoors in 100 degree temps didn't help , but I am really surprised by the lack of ticket sales. This was supposedly the card of the year. I'm no promoter but Crawford sells a lot of tickets in Omaha , maybe the fight should have been held there , or in Vegas.

With so many millions of people living in and around LA , you should be able to get 25 k to pay for a farting contest , much less a card of big fights.

It just goes to show you that there is no substitute for a genuine star and there are so few true stars who can sell out a stadium in the USA or a mega stadium with 40k+. Recently? I’ve seen Canelo do it….I’ve seen Tank do it….I’ve seen Spence do it. Turki is going to have to work with Al Haymon if he wants Star power in the USA. Working with Hearn ain’t gonna cut it mate…

It was 100 degrees and the tickets were uber expensive.. Bud Crawford has never been a ticket seller outside of Nebraska where the tickets are cheap

I mean the card was stacked sure but TC isnt exactly a PPV star or Big ticket selling attraction, add Madrimov to the equation and you'd see why Turkeys org gave away almost 20% of 'courtesy' tickets. Prince Aladeen will def need real headliner names like Canelo or Tank just to mention a few to really make a sellout in the US imo.
