Let me give it a different example. In the 1980’s in California, black people were being incarcerated at an alarming rate for using crack *******. The three strike rule meant almost all of them went to prison for life.
When white people started getting arrested, the state of California decided to change the laws to decriminalize possession. They did this to protect white people from going to prison.
Mark Geragos, a criminal defense lawyer did a whole segment about this when he was a legal analyst at CNN.
This Trâns thing was always seen as an abomination right about when white men started coming out in the hundreds claiming to be Träns and suddenly it became normalized.
