Winning a world title against Ruslan when he was already a shot fighter is not a big deal. Ruslan beat a once very talented Castillo when he had about 80 pro fights and had nothing left. Castillo retired after their fight.

Algeri was nothing to write home about and lost to every notable fighter he faced. Getting a victory over a shot Ruslan for a world title was not a big deal IMO. We can agree to disagree.
Nobody thought Provodnikov was shot. It was literally The Ring Upset of the Year when Algieri beat him.

Exactly. His analysis was as cerebral as they come. His analysis is just as average as his fighting. We can disagree with Tim, but at least Tim gives you insight with some enthusiasm. Algeri has zero enthusiasm. Honestly, they should have just left Tim’s seat empty. The only 2 analyst that should take Tim’s seat when he’s not available are RJJ or Tarver. Algeri will put you to sleep.

After the Bradley fight, Ruslan was never himself again. I’ll say it again, Algeri was an average fighter and worse as a boxing analyst on live TV.

He literally knocked out a reigning titlist for his belt right before Algieri beat him and Algieri was a huge underdog going into the fight.

As much as I loath to see the belts get fragmented, in the IBF's defence they have allowed the undisputed fight to occur, the actual issue that they signed an immediate rematch.

I think the last IBF mandatory was Pulev against Joshua in 2020 and before that Takam in 2017, so there have been 2 mandatories in 7 years, so something has to give.

Ultimately it was probably the time that Hrgovic waited which has actually cost him his shot. Just like Dillian Whyte waiting for forever for his WBC shot, losing to Povetkin and then being totally unprepared for when he did get his chance. Wait long enough and you will either get beat or go stale.

Chris needs to write more articles! He is spot on! Well spoken, well written, and definitely coming from someone who knows the game of boxing. I don’t think you have to be the very best boxer in the world to know the system. He gets it!

I don't like it but to say it achieves nothing isn't exactly true. Joshua is still, so far as I know, the biggest draw at HW. The IBF is providing him an avenue to a title that doesn't have to pass through Usyk.

For the most part, the folks on this board know a meaningless title when they smell one but there are plenty of Ppv buyers who are influenced by such things. At least that's my theory.
