The myth of Fury the Invincible is shattered. So are more of his brain cells. His howling is going to give the moon no rest in years to come.
I had it 7-5 Usyk—close, in that exciting seesawing way of the best matchups. I thought the middle rounds had left the formidable Ukrainian hurt and in trouble, especially when he began complaining about low blows.
But it was Fury, showing he is no longer a 12-round fighter, who had the deepest vulnerabilities. How much of him was lost to those many canvas-tastings from Wilder? A lot, if the vicious 9th was any indication. His battering by Usyk was thrilling and outrageous—sixty spastic seconds boxing will not soon forget.
He has been an entertaining, maddening, silly and occasionally brilliant champion. Personally, I liked him, but thought he was running on fumes. Now we know.

Hi did great, I give him that, but his personality is everything but great.Last edited by James; 05-19-2024, 03:03 AM.bender2000 pnut901 like this.

Big shame. If Usyk would have beaten Wilder first it would be a lot more legit now but maybe he can fight wilder a couple of times then rematch Fury.

Same Wilder that was just beaten by Joseph Parker gets a title shot?

Terrible night for me i've had flu for nearly 3 weeks feeling like death and i watched this lying under my duvet on sofa coughing and wheezing and felt so low for fury. It's been a terrible month. terrible. Need to regroup. I feel so low.

I picked (+ wanted) Usyk to win this but did say it would be a close fight. I think Fury has shown that he is a very good fighter (despite his shocking record) and this sets up a Joshua fight nicely - even if Fury loses the rematch. You have to think that Fury could trick his way to victory against AJ but AJ is also well capable of landing hard on Fury. Definitely a fight I want to see.
I think Fury is smart enough to try a completely different approach next time against Uysk. A bit like after first Wilder fight so a rematch is interesting too.
Also as good as Usyk is - he could lose any fight in the HW division as the Dubois fight showed. Boxing is a sport not a full-gone conclusion
