It's a delicate balance. Maybe a certain percentage needs to go into a pot for these things?
I don't have the answers. I'll defer to the guys who risk their lives in the ring.

Boxing is like anything else in the entertainment world. It goes up in popularity, it goes down in popularity, it goes back up. Ppl who act like boxing is in some kind of Sports ICU are ridiculous.Oregonian likes this.

Nah! He does not get it. What exactly has the US done with all the millions of dollars being paid out to boxers? Boxers are going broke all the time in the US and there is no healthcare or pension for them. None whatsoever.
Saudi Arabia is just a platform like Vegas. They just happen to have a boatload more of money.

Nope. Saudis are paying the most popular boxers only. In hope to drive up tourism in their country.
Can you name the “runners” you allude to?

The US and the U.K. have hosted huge sporting events (Olympics, World Cup etc) to white wash their horrific records on human rights. We just executed a man in with nitrogen in Alabama and we are about to execute another.
We also invaded Iraq based on lies and killed almost two million people while looting and pillaging their oil.
We are behind the war in Yemen where 500,000 have been killed with our support and weapons.
How many governments have we overthrown in the last 30 years? Causing millions of death and carnage.
There are more than 3 milllion people in prisons with over 60% of them **********. So much for human rights and “lack of moral compass”.

There are already millions of ****** pilgrims all over the world going to Mecca for their mandatory religious obligation called Haj.
It used to be their main source of income in the olden days, or pre oil boom.
Boxing and other sports festivals are only part of giving the impression that they're no longer a close society.
I read it somewhere that the Crown Prince is jealous of other Middle East countries like Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
He recognizes it can't happen overnight, but they're inching towards it like giving women rights to drive vehicles, for example.

Saudi do put on a few big fights though, without going into the debate of sports washing.
Boxing, as a whole, has not provided a proper pension fund for retired boxers, and medical care for conditions affecting them after retirement.
