Which is a better way to lose?

Vargas getting stopped late by Trinidad, after putting up a hell of a fight...

    or

... Naz being made to look silly, over the distance, by Barrera.

Obviously some decisions can look worse than others, and they're dependant on the parity of the opponents' skill levels and natural weights; then you have have early and late stoppages. So between getting shut out or being stopped late, which will look worse over time?

obviously better to get outboxed than to get ruined by a huge puncher and never be the same fighter again.

well, both those fights were pretty much career enders for Naz and Feroz

OK, not necessarily the best examples. Lemme try again - is it better to survive sluggishly over 12 rounds but look crap in the process (Ruiz to Jones), or get stopped after the mid-rounds whilst looking amazing? (Castillo to Corrales 1)

Losing in a valiant fashion is always better then going out like a chump. Both in regard to legacy (Hearns) or in getting a next fight because people always wanted to see Gatti win or lose.

              Decent example...

Lose like Pavlik did to Hopkins

Lose how Cotto did to Margarito

I'd rather lose how Cotto did, knees included.
