Comments Thread For: At Middleweight, Rebuilding Has To Start Somewhere

By Cliff Rold - While middleweight has often been top heavy even in higher financial times in recent decades, the top was often more than enough. Marvin Hagler, Bernard Hopkins, and Gennadiy Golovkin all found themselves waiting for smaller men with big names to come up the scale to define them. A brief explosion between Hopkins and Golovkin featured Jermain

What doesn't help are boxers such as Chris Eubank Jnr who would rather make money in gimmick contests rather than look for title glory.

Charlo, GGG, Eubank - big enough names. Up to the organisations to make the fights. Over to you WBO and WBC first

          Eubank doesnt fight for titles

Great article bringing this to our attention!
Wasn’t even aware there was a middleweight unification this weekend. If the winner of this weekend’s fight then goes on to claim the remaining belt from Lara, it could make for a compelling showdown with Charlo if and when he returns.
Perhaps a new dominant force will emerge in the middleweight division once again. My money is on Alimkhanuly. Let the rebuilding commence!

Boots should jump to 160, he definitely has the frame for it. I doubt Crawford will ever meet him at welterweight any way.

Janibek is the best at 160. He will have two belts soon.

Charlo is inactive, GGG is retired, Eubank jr. doesn`t fight for the titles, he is busy fighting smaller guys.

To me, the ending statement about the Boxing HOF is the most boxing thing out there. There should be a threshold to reach for the Hall. It is not the "Hall of very respectable careers", it should be for the élite. I get why they do it this way, for it brings a nice amount of National attention to boxing. But it opens the door for some really bland careers to be enshrined.
