Roach: "Miguel Cotto Has Trouble With Southpaws"

Trainer Freddie Roach is not convinced that WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto is comfortable with fighting southpaws in the ring. He watched Cotto's fight with Zab Judah a few times and noticed how Miguel was troubled by Judah's style in the early rounds. He thought Judah broke down along the way due to stamina. He thinks Manny Pacquiao's style and speed will present a lot of issues for Cotto on November 14. [details]

They did seem to bother him earlier in his career, but not that he's fought a few, they shouldn't bother him too bad. Pac's speed is what will bother Cotto most.

I would say Oscar in his prime was much more dangerous than Cotto currently is. I've never heard anyone say that Cotto "hits like a truck" before. He's just a strong puncher who can break you down.

Judah's reach advantage along with his speed and power was most likely the cause of the problems early for Cotto...I don't think that he has an issue with southpaws as he absolutely destroyed Quintana. Pacquiao should have the speed advantage, but he doesn't have a reach advantage nor does he have the power of Judah.

Shouldnt be worried about Pac being a southpaw. Cotto has experience with some and learned from it. His right cross has gotten better as well. The only thing Cotto has to worry about is the speed and using his jab to disrupt Pac and break him down basically.

I'd have to disagree. I think Pacquiao punches harder than Judah. Also, Pac is even with Cotto on the Reach advantage I believe.

For some inexplicable reason I'd be willing to bet that Cotto gets cut sometime during the fight.

that statement maybe true to some extent, but...

lil pac is not zab judah, the same way cotto is no JMM each fighter has their own style of boxing.

if cotto does have trouble with southpaws i think cottos training camp are finding ways to deal with this weakness and hopefully both fighters come in prepared for each others pros and cons or else it might be a short fights for one of the other guys..
