Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua Scores Brutal One-Punch Knockout of Robert Helenius in Seventh

Joshua has shown improved boxing skills over the years after the first Ruiz fight..better stamina, footwork, head movement, and overall defense. But he has also lost his confidence in the process and isn't that aggressive any longer. Robert is now a faded fighter and cannot take a punch. Even then, it took AJ quite some time to first figure him out and grow in confidence before he landed that right hand. His post-fight behavior is also getting weirder.
The AJ-Wilder fight will be interesting. While I have been advocating Wilder to win previously, it is a more even fight now as Wilder is also fading with age (and perhaps the damage he took). The fight will still be exciting because of two very different boxing styles. AJ might try to dodge the shots and wait for the perfect time but Wilder is going to be more aggressive, throw more, and a lot faster. The problem, however, is that when he misses a big right hand, he is vulnerable to taking big shots too. Overall, I think both will start off very nervous and the first to connect with a big shot wins.

Wilder would need to land his perfect punch - the fully torqued shoulder whipping fully extended right - or catch AJ on the temple and go full Windmill to clean out Joshua
If AJ lands on Wilder and accumulates punches or doesn't get careless he either takes Wilder out or wins on the cards.
There's no universe in which Wilder outboxes AJ for a decision.

I'm still not convinced by the new Joshua though. Taking your time is fine, but he still doesn't look instinctive to me. The same opportunities were there and he backed off them. Almost like he needs to see it loads of times before he'll convince himself he can go for it.
Better fighters won't give him that many looks to pass up.
Regarding this Helenius fight I believe AJ don't want to make a rush move like he did against Ruiz 1 and get countered so he watched carefully and then unleash the power punch.

I'm impressed with this fight! Now AJ should prepare for wilder. That fight is going to be a ****er!

Fairplay...he wasn't there to win so why bother.
I'll say one thing for big Bob - he falls really well. Very satisfying when tall timber drops like that.pollywog likes this.

The question is whether he'll step in against more dangerous fighters.

If up to me I wouldn’t even put him in with Wilder yet. He’s gotta face someone of note and actually put his hands together. There were so many openings tonight and he didn’t take them, that KO could have happened earlier. That being said, getting the KO will do his confidence so much good.
Wilder could call Parker out too for the same reason and probably same result.
