Terence Crawford’s trainer expresses interest in facing Jermell Charlo at 154
Terence Crawford seems to have Jermell Charlo in his sights, who is currently set to challenge Canelo Alvarez.
    July 31, 2023

With Terence Crawford the official king of the welterweight division, his trainer Brian McIntyre talks about what could come next for the Nebraska native. McIntyre says he didn’t quite hear what Crawford was saying to Jermell Charlo after dropping Errol Spence during the live fight, but admits their willingness to move up to junior middleweight to face him.

If that’s a possible fight to be made it certainly won’t come next, as Charlo is scheduled to at least temporarily move up in weight to challenge Canelo. But here’s what McIntyre had to say on the subject, anyway.

McIntyre on if Crawford has more to offer than what we saw in the Spence fight

“There’s more still in the toolbox because of the simple fact that that dude was basic. Let’s go up to ‘54, knock off Charlo, see what Charlo got. If he can go up to ‘54 and knock off Charlo, Charlo a little stronger — you see how Bud was twisting that mother****er (Spence) around. Strong. Catching them punches and delivering like a mother****er.

“I need somebody to bring the best ‘Bud’ Crawford out of him.”

On if Jermell Charlo could bring out the best in Crawford

“He probably can. He probably can for two reasons: 1) he’s been at ‘54 all of his career; and 2) he’s mad.

“So it’s just real simple. Stay calm, stay cool, stay collected, and let’s pick this ***** apart together.”

Crawford has unlimited options. He can wait 30 days to see if Spence will exercise his rematch clause or he could defend the titles against Jaron Boots Ennis or move up in weight to campaign at 154 in order to challenge Jermell Charlo for the undisputed crown The world is his. Spence handlers shouldn’t cash him just yet. He still has a lot of good fights left. He may be damaged but not ruined.

Not a bad style matchup! It’s a battle between two counter punchers.Bud will win but Yordenis could make it very difficult for him.

Doesn’t he owe Errol Spence an immediate rematch? If Spence decides to activate it then Crawford could possibly see action sometime later this year.

Booooo....Thurman had his chance. If he had beaten Pacquiao, it could have been him vs Spence to unify on PBC side, then him vs Bud for all the marbles

Once upon a time Thurman isn't really in the picture, clinging on to a once illustrious career, hoping to get a pay for an ass whooping such a shame he wasted much of his career for w/e reason...

Thurman must've forgotten, he can't take body punches. He'll get knocked out too.

I don't even remember what "prime" Thurman looks like anymore, with all the inactivity and injury. He talks more than he fights.

Also, which version of Thurman are you referring to? The one who had a close fight with Porter? The one who had troubling moments with Josesito and Collazo?

The only difference between Thurman and Spence....Thurman would get hurt to the body and run to survive, unlike Spence who kept fighting fire with fire.

Two pure counter-punchers is actually one of my least favorite style match-ups because both guys will be waiting on the other to initiate. Fortunately, Crawford isn't only a counter-puncher.
