It's a make or break year for Derrick James

It's possible his two best fighters get owned hard this year.

It's also possible his two best fighters score huge wins.

Could he be done as a top trainer if Spence and Mell Charlo both get outclassed and knocked out?

Why would he be done as a top trainer because one of his fighters loses a 50-50 and the other loses as big underdog?

All top trainers over the years like Roach, Steward etc had losses in big fights.

It’s not like his fighters are both fighting guys they are supposed to beat. Both of his fighters are going for greatness, as underdogs at that. If they both lose, it’s ok as long as they made it to fight night.

          That's a crazy talk.
Why would a very good trainer lose his ability to train fighters to world class if both his fighters l8se being underdogs..

Yeah maybe my wording wasn't perfect.

Maybe it's a year where he could become an ATG trainer or just remain a solid trainer.

Actually, if Spence and Charlo both get outskilled and lose, we can safely say Derrick James is a very wise trainer, but very one-dimensional in that he specializes in training weight bullies to beat their opponents by attrition.

Winning, does not solely define a Great or Top boxing coach.

Any great fighter can just pick a boxing coach 'And beat 95% of the fighters in their division'.

For me what defines a great boxing coach, is how they work with many fighters 'At different levels of the game'.

I would say James's work now? With Anthony Joshua, will really show whether he is a super great trainer 'As he is already a great trainer most likely'.

Great fighters typically seek out great trainers 'Whether it works out for them or not is sometimes irrelevant'.

Ricky Hatton seek out Floyd Mayweather Senior, Anthony Joshua seek out Robert Garcia, Amir Khan seek out Freddie Roach 'Because they were great boxing coaches' etc.

Note: But I have always had the opinion, that the best all round boxing coaches 'Are those working in the Amateur ranks or predominately at the lower levels sometimes in the professional ranks'.

By definitive quite simply a trainer working at this level, in my opinion is going to be tested more on various levels.

A boxing coach who is competitive and passionate about their work 'Would look at a fighter like Joshua, at this stage of his career. And as a pure boxing coach, they would want to work and coach Joshua. Because it is a big opportunity, a challenge which involves jeopardy and credit' etc.

Ahhh, so this is your agenda. Win or lose, Derrick is still legit as that come as far as boxing trainers.
