Insider Notebook: Mayweather-Mosley Goal, Vazquez Plan

By Robert Morales - Welterweight champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley turned 38 on Sept. 7. That means unless he turns out to be another Bernard Hopkins - ageless - his window for a couple of more high-profile fights might be slowly starting to close.

But Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions - which promotes Mosley - on Tuesday said 2010 could be a good year for Mosley if he is able to defeat Andre Berto on Jan. 30 at Mandalay Bay. That fight is not yet 100 percent consummated - although Schaefer said it could be getting there - but a win over Berto could springboard Mosley to the fight he covets with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Schaefer said Mosley, should he beat Berto, figures to have another fight in either April or May on HBO and then a fight later on in the year that is earmarked for HBO pay-per-view.

It sounds like Schaefer is thinking along the lines of that pay-per-view fight being against Mayweather, with whom Schaefer said he has a good working relationship. [details]

I think Berto is in over his head against Mosley, but he'll have his chance to prove the doubters wrong.

All Mosley has todo is be patient, really.

If he gets past Berto, he'll beat a champion and unify - and also he'll grab the WBC Belt [the only belt Mayweather seems to consider "legit"].

So if he gets past Berto, and say a nice-big fight in June-July [while the Mayweather-Winnerof Cotto/Pac] are getting busy and wins ; he raises his stocks and hopefully more exposure and assuming Mayweather and Mosley wins the 2nd fight..

There should no doubt be megafight between the two at the end of the year for the WelterWeight championship, and probably the ring one will be at stake too.

That's if all goes according to plan - there would be no excuses .

If Mosley wants this to happen he has to work his ass off and be hungry one last time for it to happen ; Berto and whoever he chooses in the middle of the year [has tobe someone legit and big maybe Clottey] won't be a pushover and he has a make statement in those fights
