The Ring ****zine's time of credibility is over. It was a sad day for boxing when the bible of boxing was bought by GBP.

May it rest in peace while Nat Fleischer turns in his grave.

Because GBP, who owns The Ring, obviously wants Mayweather to fight Sugar Shane next, and this adds some serious luster to that fight. Mayweather up a spot on the P4P rankings over Mosley, Mosley up a spot at welterweight... supposedly an even fight.

Here's what gets me... if Mosley is higher up than Mayweather at welterweight, how does Mayweather get a higher spot in the P4P rankings? They both beat ODLH at 154, and Mayweather's resume at 140 is pretty lackluster. So are they really going all the way back to either 2004 (when Mosley lost twice to Wright) or 2002 (when Mayweather beat his last real, quality opponent outside of the welterweight division in Jose Luis Castillo)?

The Ring's rankings are really making me scratch my head.

I agree, and this is coming from a big Oscar fan. You can tell just how they are twisting it to their benefit.

Does Hopkins become P4P #1 if he beats Pacquiao at 175? I'm not sure it is that simple.

                    Another valid point.

I'm all for giving people credit for who they beat... I think the Marquez and Pavlik wins by both boxers are fairly underrated, but... they also aren't wins that anoint you as the best fighter in the division, and the knock on both wins is due to lack of credentials in the division by the opponent.

It doesn't really matter, because there is too much money in Mayweather-Pacquiao, and they are eventually going to just calm down and accept a 50/50 split, meaning the battle for welterweight and P4P supremacy will be settled by that fight. After all, if Pacquiao beats Cotto, I don't see how anyone can question Pacquiao's validity as a true welterweight.

Well I love Oscar as well. But he really should have known better than taking over the world most treasured and credible boxing mag. He should have known that the ring ratings would be under a microscope as soon as the owner was a major player in the promotional industry.
