Comments Thread For: Mayer: If Baumgardner Was a True Champion, She Would Give Me a Rematch

Mikaela Mayer has trouble imagining Alycia Baumgardner would be content to deprive their rivalry of a rematch. Mayer (17-1, 5 KOs) and Baumgardner (13-1, 7 KOs) met in the ring last month in a highly anticipated 130-pound

Mayer is correct in that it should be a rematch but let’s just look at Baumgardner angle and demand firstly, because she’s the champion not Mayer so if I can make lots of Money and pick up all the belts vs Choi the rematch with Mayer will be even more and for all the marbles but on my terms( Baumgardner) Mayer is a bit bitter but let’s be honest had you won would you have given Baumgardner a rematch right away. No! This young lady is on her way and will make money in the process so Mayer needs to get over it and keep it moving. Who’s the champ? Baumgardner the champ, who’s the champ? Baumgardner is the champ! End of story.

Unification is more important than a rematch.

Mayer won the fight hands down! I was horrified to hear the judges' decision. She attacked all through and her defence was good. Whatever her name is they awarded the win was on the back foot on night and woke up once or twice during the fight. She never really pressured Mayer. Disgusting decision by the judges.

I don't know how you judge a fight, but Baumgardner was tapping herup using movement and angles. Mayer was stiff and the only offense she had was the jab. She is not Haney, and her jab didn't win that fight. Baumgardner got the better of the exchanges, hit her with the overhand right over the jab and hooks, moving in and out at ease. She only lost about 3 of the middle rounds when Mayer made a slight adjustment that her corner recommended, and Alycia looked like it confused her for a moment. Other than that, Baumgardner was clearly outboxing her the first 3 or 4 rounds and the last 3 using her better athleticism, footwork, and in and out attacks. She was laughing and talking to her most of the fight. Look at their faces afterwards and tell me who won; Baumgardner didn't have a scratch, but Mayer had bruises and welts.

Look at the entitled ex-champion trying to make demands and the terms of how Baumgardner should move, when she knows that she wouldn't have given her a rematch if she had won. She would have gone after undisputed, just as Alycia is doing. If I were Baumgardner, the more she talks, the more I would make her wait. She has earned the right to determine her next moves and make her money as a 3 belt champion. If she continues to talk, Alycia should take the Katie Taylor fight after Choi before Mayer can get it. But even if she gives her the rematch after Choi, I just don't see anything changing. Mayer is too stiff and only has the jab, while Baumgardner is athletic, with quick hands and good footwork, throws combinations with power, and uses in and out movement from angles. She's just better, younger, and still improving.

I'm going with Mikaela and hope meangirl Baumy goes down soon. Her arrogance is a drag on women's boxing.

What the hell were you watching? Obviously not the fight the judges saw and gave their opinion on,
