Bob Arum sparks Huge controversy. Says ‘nobody cares about women’s boxing’

Bob arum has put his foot in it again. In a recent interview aired yesterday, he was asked about Taylor vs serrrano potentially being on the same day as Stevenson vs Valdez. Bob arum said nobody cares about women’s boxing and nobody is interested in it. it’s like comparing premier league football to women’s football. This has sparked controversy among boxing community. Jake Paul called him an old dinosaur, Eddie Hearn did the same and agreed with jake Paul’s comments about arum being a dinosaur who is against women.

Personally, I don’t think he said anything wrong, women’s boxing is a load of crap. But you do have to question why he says things like this, he needs better pr. Other promoters probably think the same thing but they don’t say it cause they know the backlash they would get from the snowflakes.

But what will you be watching on April 30th? Taylor vs Serrano or Stevenson vs Valdez?

He's right, only low testosterone men like 1hourRun enjoy watching women boxing. Personally I'm tired of seeing this trash clutter up all the boxing cards.

Bob is a dinosaur. I've seen black and white photos of middle aged Arum posing with Ali before a fight.

He seems to have these unfiltered, nasty moments from time to time nowadays. Sometimes they amuse me and other times I think they are crass. Almost always, they run counter to something he said before or will say after. I guess he feels he's earned the right to do it after spending the better part of a century being a scumbag.

In terms of his comments on women's boxing, it's a shame and slap in the face to his own fighter Mikaela Mayer (who I actually enjoy watching). I will watch both fight cards that night. For me, fights are more about matchups than levels. I've seen plenty of entertaining women's fights and I've seen plenty of trash men's fights (just look at Bob's card last night..).

I enjoy watching women’s boxing for the most part.

Women’s MMA is way better though.

That's how it is for me too. I mean, the women's pool is very limited, but when the top girls fight the others, I have been really entertained. Taylor vs Persoon 1 and 2 for example. The mismatch fights in women's boxing certainly do it no favours. That Estrada woman, who is excellent by the way, beating that woman who looked like she had never stepped in a ring before in about 7 seconds, is the equivalent of putting Tyson Fury in with some random guy from the crowd and letting him go balls to the wall like it's a serious fight.

Women need time to get better, but they need the opportunity and the exposure as well. I remember watching woman's top league football (soccer) in the 90s, and I was playing under 11s football at the time, and I can honestly say that my under 11s team would have beaten the woman's top league sides, but now, the woman's league is actually quite good, not anywhere near close to the men's of course, but a watchable and respectable standard.

Sports women deserve some spotlight and exposure like the men. They will never earn close to what the top men gets and they don't deserve to as the money they bring in in terms of income just isn't there. Mayweather got paid big cos everyone watched him. He earned the bag cos he brought the audience. Shields and the like have modest audience and sales, so they need to be realistic in that sense, but I'm all for them getting the chance to shine and to help develop future generations of women's sports. Nash out.

Well he's not wrong. The hardcore fans may care about it, but the casuals don't. Women's MMA is on another level and more exciting.

I think that's because of depth of talent. You have alot of girls who begin martial arts like karate, jiujitsu or judo at a young age. They develop the foundational blocks of MMA skills at a younger age.

Not alot of girls step into a boxing gym at 10 years old looking to learn the sport. If you did, I'd think you'd see a deeper more talented pool of female boxers.

Unfortunately, speaking the truth is "controversial" nowadays because of the world we have created. Let those who think this is "controversial" put on some women-only boxing shows and see how profitable it is. Not even women will watch it.
