Can JMM afford to get a slow start?

Againt Pac in their first fight, we know what happened. He got off to a better start in their second fight.

Marquez needed a few rounds to get rolling against Casamayor and Diaz.

If he starts slow against Floyd, might this be a very short fight?

I would rather see him start off strong but if he doesn't then that's not so bad either.
    He knows what he's doing.
I think JMM will do well in the fight whether he has a slow start or not.

Well Mayweather sometimes starts off a little slow also so I doubt the results would be as devastating as it would be against, say, Pacquiao - but I feel Mayweather will likely win the final half of the fight so Marquez had better get some points in the bag early on

I don't think anyone can really afford a slow start when facing top level opposition in a 12 round fight but I don't think JMM's tendencies to start slow will be taken advantage of in this fight as much as it was against guys who start really fast like Diaz and Pacquiao because Mayweather normally takes a few rounds to see what his opponents have got himself.

The problem with falling behind is that he would have to get aggressive. Overly?

And that's where he would expose himself.

But isn't that the problem? It's reliably predictable that May sweeps the last half (or third) of his fights.

This fight should be very interesting down the stretch because Marquez ends fights strong as well, he normally wins the late rounds against his opponents when he makes his adjustments. Should be interesting to watch.

No, If Mayweather wins the 1st couple of rounds, it forces JMM to have to take the lead. JMM is a counterpuncher, it would be in his best interest to at least win one of the first 3 rounds. If you in the hole against Mayweather, he'd have to play the role of aggressor, running face first into the strongest, biggest, and most skilled fighter he's ever fought.
