    Nothing but the truth.

no its not. it's not a threat. its like comparing apples to oranges.
it is a threat...I was at a friends house who ordered the Jones/Lacy for kicks... EVERYONE there wanted to turn it in the middle of the fight to watch Gina Carano fight Cyborg for free on SHO...so we did and turned it back the Lacy/Jones after her fight. Point is.....there is a lot boxing being sold that isnt given us **** for your buck.......UFC and MMA more than always does.....you really dont know what you are talking about..

I think Bob Arum is wrong about the fans of MMA, but he is right about MMA as a sport. I am a hardcore boxing fan, and I can't stand watching MMA fights. They do a great job at promotions and in the fight business, but the actual fights themselves and the fighters are low skilled affairs that look like unprofessional street fights. If I want to see MMA, I can just go to any hood where someone is about to get their asses kicked. It doesn't show professionalism or skill in my opinion. Boxing is a way more skilled sport which shows way more class and finess. MMA is so boring and brutal at the same time. As soon as they go to the floor, the whole fight just looks sloppy.

Dana white is right about boxing. Boxing doesn't make the fights people wanna see. If you say boxing is organized better than UFC are in denial. Boxing organized like a UFC is my dream do you realize the match ups that would have already happened..??!!

It's kind of funny that Arum used the word "class" in the same breath as UFC. But then I guess Arum doesn't know class himself.

I am so glad Bob finally said it! I completely agree, except for the fact that not all the fans are skinheads, yet so many are Midwestern white guys with tattoos and violent tendencies. And, I say that as a white guy from the Midwest. the two sports always get compared but they are more different than alike. It's like comparing tennis to ping-pong.
Also, there is way too much rolling around on the ground and holding and basically being inactive within the ring. The Queensberry rules were established as the refinement of hand-to-hand combat. All the superfluous moves and grabs were stripped away until only the most potent weapons remained.
There was always MMA throughout history. It just wasn't called MMA. It existed as street fighting and plain old brawling. Similar to what animals do except without the biting and scratching. Boxing is the epitomy of martial sport. In what other sport does the combatant completely immerse him/herself in the training so intensely, oftentimes to the point where they detach from society and live at camps and control their diet and sleep to such an exacting degree? MMA fighters aren't so much sportsmen as testosterone driven manimals who obviously enjoy inflicting pain on other people. You could say it's for the money but then I would respect them even less because what boxer doesn't admit they do it for the pure love of boxing itself? And I say that as a boxer.

I love the generalization in this thread...

MMA fighters have glass jaws, MMA fighters aren't the athletes boxers are, MMA fighters are ****ty fighters, ect...jeez, do people really feel that insecure about the sport?

UFC will have a good match up from time to time, but i still feel the level of competition is greater in boxing.

I have some friends and colleagues who only pay attention to MMA and can care less about boxing, and these are the kind of guys who say boxing won't be around in the future, boxers would get killed in the cage, etc. Ofcourse, they are aware of Floyd and Pac, and have some fond memories of boxing, but their lack of respect and knowledge of the sport amazes me. Boxing, obviously, is not going anywhere. but with the dumbing down of the culture, it's hard to imagine what the younger generation will find entertaining.

                      Arum is crazy

I am a long time boxing fan, enthusiest, historian, and my love for boxing has always been 2nd to NONE. Anytime I am in a romm with boxing fans, it is ME who knows whats going on now, 5 years ago, and 90 years ago. I also am a HUGE MMA and UFC fan. UFC fighters are absolutely incredible athletes. It upsets me to hear these labels being put on the sport and the fans. Boxing is a different sport. Like American football is different from Mexican football (Soccer). MMA fighters are all around fighters. Not neccessarily elite in one discipline, but great at combinding them all together. They are FIGHTERS! Boxing is a sport! Sure it is a combative sport, but one dimensional. It is an AWESOME sport! I love it, and if a world champion boxer had a boxing match with the best striker in MMA, well he would destroy him. But, if you put them in an MMA fight, an average MMA fighter would destroy the boxing world champion. The sports are different, both incredible, but different. I personally love the fact that you get 5 great fights (or more)with a UFC PPV, but come Sept 19th, I am going to watch JMM shock the world by smashing PBF! Boxing and MMA can and should co exist. Respect all warriors who train their asses off and get into the ring or the cage! ALL WARRIORS! It is up to us as fans to keep both of these incredible sports around, forever!
