That's why it was ran into the ground. Fernando Vargas in your avy is a prime example of this.
Look where they are at now.. They have Adamek & Joel Julio, Lorenzo & Crawford & that's it.

    Very true, very true.

I guess the Main Event's pick was because I never heard any legal disputes between them and their fighters. I may be wrong but I believe I hard Vargas had a small dispute with them but that's all.

There's always two sides to every story between the promoter and the fighter but to the people who said Gary Shaw was their choice, look at the stable he once had. I think it was around the Corrales/Castillo fight when I was like Damn! He had a squad. Mosley, Jeff Lacy was undefeated, Winky Wright was with him, Diego Corrales, I believe PacMan was with him momentarily, Darchinyan, I believe he also had a piece of James Toney (maybe shared with Goosen-Tutor) but it seemed like everyone of those guys jumped ship. Do you question everyone else or the captain of the ship?

If I was still fighting and about to go pro I'd still be in Rhode Island, so I would sign with Jimmy Burchfield and CES. If my star was on the rise or I didn't think he was doing the job I could always sign with a more prominent promoter once my contract was up.

Diaz would sell out in Houston if he was promoted by me. He was already the biggest ticket seller in the region when he was with Main Events.

We can factor in the experience because the average fighter doesn't have 20 years to wait while Golden Boy catches up in experience to what TR is doing.

I'm just saying, are you really "promoting" if most of your money comes from TV and only a minor percentage comes from the gate? What happened to the days when promoters promoted?
Don King is the actual King of promoting things, but that ship has pretty much sailed. Still GBP nowadays does more of trying to adapt to what the fans want. Less PPVs with better cards (this is also HBO's credit as well, but GBP and HBO work together to make those cards).

When Pacquiao caught mainstream eye, it's because he fought two GBP promoted fighters. Both companies did good measures to promote the fight. Arum has been good with Public Relations, but GBP's done there fair share of that.

By the way it's not just Diaz's drawing power to houston, but GBP makes effort to promote the fights by going to rockets games and ****. It's public appearences, which both companies are good at. But Diaz-Malignaggi was up against an Astros games and a texans game. It still did rock solid numbers.

Also it did great numbers on HBO because GBP stacked that card to be a triple header. Arum has been good with public relations (look at the hype train he created with Margarito), but GBP is starting to increase the quality of cards. They've had stronger and consistent cards this year then they've had in the past.

It seems Top Rank is catching on too by stacking Cotto-Pacquiao, but GBP is the one who has put the effort in to make better cards in 09.

Pacquiao became popular because he beat Golden Boy himself. I don't think anybody knew Pacquiao with the Marquez and Barrera wins.

Dude, just shut your f**kin' mouth!

As it stands, Top Rank ko GBP! TR has two stars, who the f**k does GBP have? That says it all.

Put every single GBP fighter on one card, and it still won't outsell PAC-Cotto!!

How many fighters are known by the mainstream today? Not a whole lot my friend. Pac has been know for years to boxing fans though.

That's my point: boxing fans. Not the public in general in the U.S. Now you see celebrity bums like Denzel Washington wanting to be buddies with Pacquiao.

                      Golden Boy.

IMO I think GBP needs a young asian/pinoy in its stable. They would be very marketable at the moment.
