The fight was a good one. Much better than most expected, I believe.
Personally, I think it was a fantastic marker for Jermall. The guy relies way too much on his power and believes in it as if he can change finish the fight at will. But he doesn't have that kind of power.
And I think Montiel and his Margarito-style of boxing proved that Jermall is either going to have to learn how to break guys down and set up shots. Or he's going to get into dog fights that will possibly not go his way.
Perfect lead up to fighting GGG imo.
Because the way this fight went, is how I suspect GGG to make Charlo fight.
The major difference being:
GGG's boxing is significantly better than Montiel's.
GGG's boxing IQ is significantly greater than Montiel's.
GGG's power is infinitely greater than Montiel's.
And GGG will do exactly what Montiel did but even greater because GGG will live in the space that Montiel kept trying to walk into.
Great work for Charlo and if he is smart, he will use this fight to improve for a potential firefight with GGG. Because unlike Montiel, GGG has the power to really hurt Charlo. The styles already made Charlo uncomfortable, now imagine taking actual damage? Charlo is in for the fight of his career against GGG.Last edited by F l i c k e r; 06-20-2021, 09:03 AM.

You complain about Black fighters cherry picking Mexican bums but there are ONLY mexican bums.
Yawl don't have great fighters beside Canelo, and he knows his place that's why he running with both feet and his tail tucked in from the elite black guys.
Lol, you made a mistake starting this race war when you don't even have a leg to stand on.
Black fighters stay chasing Mexican fighters and Mexicans stay ducking.
The rest are all bums.
BIATCH you need to go watch Andrade hold on for DEAR LIFE against Liam FKN WILLAIMS!!!
AND
Haney HOLD on for DEAR life against Linares. Which we ALL know Linares had him out but took the dive.

It was a comfortable points victory, but then many will say he couldn't knock the guy out, yet Munguia stopped Montiel in two, albeit at a lighter weight.
Charlo has some excellent boxing skills, but his power isn't up there with Golovkin and Canelo. It doesn't mean he has no chance of beating them. He's showing a few flaws that will make more guys want to fight him.
I think some of that was Montiel coming in excellent condition and highly motivated and some was Charlo either weight drained or in poor condition. Jermall may or may not be better suited to 168 and this performance doesn't necessarily tell us he'd lose to a GGG or Andrade. Canelo is an entirely different story however...

Charlo - Andrade is 50 - 50 fight. Charlo obviously hasn`t any special power at 160. It is hard to believe he can seriously hurt Andrade.

Even if he is a 33-1 favorite or if some other power-dominant middleweight knocked Montiel out, is irrelevant. Mosley got Margarito out of there in a 9 but Paul Williams and Pacquiao took 12 rounds.
Charlo obviously doesn't have special power. He's no Julian Jackson on other words.
Given Montiel's damage sponge, come forward style. He never allowed Charlo to keep things at mid-range, kept bringing it to the phone booth and Charlo is clearly not comfortable there. Making the fight what it was. A high output, high endurance, brawl.
GGG v. Charlo would be a similar fight imo. Where Charlo won't spark him out either but have the added danger of getting hurt bad by a heavy handed and fundamentally sound GGG.
Andrade v. Charlo would be different because that fight will be more comfortable for Charlo and Andrade will have to establish jab dominance throughout or most likely lose because he isn't going to pressure Charlo and push his conditioning.
