Comments Thread For: Arum Reminisces About The Late, Great Marvelous Marvin Hagler

By Dan Rafael - Of all the legendary fighters Top Rank chairman Bob Arum has promoted in his 55 years in the boxing business, there were few that he admired and respected as much as Marvelous Marvin Hagler, the legendary middleweight champion, who died so unexpectedly on Saturday at age 66.

      That was Marvin ...lovely read.
I came down a short three steps from the toilet straight into Kay, Marvin's wife who promptly hit the deck uninjured at one of Marvin's after dinner do's. I didn't recognise who she was and dusted her down and with a smile from her off she went. Much later in the evening in a separate room Marvin was signing the last of his evening signatures for fans .When I approached (with Kay pointing at me) they both started to laugh ! I had around 30mins with Kay and the great man ...they were both absolute pleasures ...with a great sense of humour .Great fighter , great man, greatly missed ...R.I.P. Champ.

There are no tough and accomplished fighters today like Hagler. Maybe Canelo comes closest, as he also has a granite chin like Marvin.

Edward Hearn fans, Hagler was one of the greatest middleweights ever and one of the greats of the last 50 years. He fought before there was a dayzin, before Edward Hearn, before Anthony Joshua....

I was lucky to have attended his second fight with the always tough Mustafa Hamsho. Hagler destroyed him in 3. R.I.P champ. One of my favorites and one of the all time greats!

Sad to see so few comments on the passing of a historic figure in boxing. He never got the adulation he deserved because he had too much integrity to pursue it. He beat Leonard hands down and only the original Sugar Ray could be in the same conversation on greatest middleweights ... imho
