The idea that he could have walked through Estrada just to “make a statement” had he not been KOd by SSR, is baseless. There’s a good chance he would have been broken down and stopped by Estrada if he threw caution to the wind and tried to bully him. At this point, he’s just fighting bigger men, and being that he’s no longer in his prime, he needs to fight smarter. That is what you saw.

Yes race considering the large population of Mexicans in Texas. Don’t get it twisted as this has nothing to do with hating on Mexicans. Gotta give credit where it’s due. Estrada fought a really hard fight and a draw would have been reasonable but as usual bad judging got in the way. Another anticipated unification fight is underway in Taylor/Ramirez and both are highly favored. Should the fight be close and because it’s in Nevada will the judges give it to Ramirez because he’s Mexican? Again I’m not basing this on hate of a Mexican but calling it how it is. Look what happened with the end result of Ritson/Vásquez. Lots of boxing pros and fans thought Vasquez deserved the win but cause he was in the countryman’s home the judges got it wrong and gave the victory to the wrong man. I imagine the same outcome would have happened with Warrington/Lara had Lara not got the KO. Granted there are some good judges who know how to score fights but there’s not too many of them that care about fairness.

Bottom line is that this situation was caused by bad judging.

Did Estrada win? I can make that argument.

Did Chocolatito win? I can make that argument as well!

Therein lies the problem, Because of the off balanced score cards people assume the fix was in.

Chocolatito won it and he wobbled Estrada several times, he can get the KO in the third fight and he knows it. He was placing his shots beautifully, with a little more mustard on them, Estrada falls. A KO win will erase all trace of the atrocious decision.

yeah it’s not race, but it’s damn sure nationality. If you don’t think Mexicans and Mexican Americans have received favorable treatment in boxing and particularly from judges in Texas, then you either haven’t been paying attention or haven’t been following boxing very long.

I can see his frustration. He trained hard, sacrificed a lot, went through hell on the night and after 12 rounds thought he had done enough to win. And then gets the same L he'd have got if didn't train hard, didn't make the sacrifices, didn't push himself through the exhaustion and pain on the night.

It was a close fight, both fighters did well and I thought Chocolatito did just enough to win. The closeness of the fight means you can't argue against if a judge saw it 115-113 to Estrada. The 117-111 is extremely suspect though.

That all said... This is why you don't give away the first round so easily, which is what Chocolatito did.
