Which boxer in history has the most unique boxing style?

It's weird, but he inspired so many followers of his craft that Ali's bizarre hands down, reflex-based boxing style can no longer be considered "unique". Not when you've got practitioners like Jones and Mayweather keeping it alive.

I'm tempted to say Ruiz with his "one-two, hug a few"... though I'd hardly call that "style".


I guess I'll go for the man that inspired this thread... Ken Norton, doing the funky crab. Have you ever seen anyone box quite like Ken Norton?

All of these guys were inspired by people before them. Norton had been trained by trainers who knew guys in the 30's who did the same thing. Ali modeled himself after Willie Pastrano and I think Robinson just a little.

Perhaps Jim Jeffries who was 6'2" and yet fought out of a crouch like a smaller man might. He also fought with his left hand extended. Not a very creative style but it was unique in that no one else used it.

He was a crude fighter early on but incredibly athletic and strong and possessed an iron chin and amazing endurance. All around, I would say Jeffries was every bit as gifted as Ali and Tyson. He got by on his raw ability.

i have to disagree with that, ali's staple was the jab, jones didnt lead with a traditional jab much at all, in fact the jab was only used in certain situations by jones, but they do have similarities though

If Roy Jones looks like any great fighter from the past, it would be the recently deceased, Jimmy McLarnin. Both were pretty similiar in style, stance (left hand low) and how they'd lead with a left hook, before throwing quick combinations (neither fighter really relied on the jab too much).

Unique? The most unique I ever saw was Ali in Rumble vs. Big George. I never saw any other boxer did that before and after the Rumble. (I mean used the ropes for most of the fight as a "style" or strategy).
