Donaire: Bring on Arce or Montiel

MANILA, Philippines – Newly crowned World Boxing Association champ Nonito Donaire Jr. has his eyes set on fighting marquee names in the land of the super flyweights.

Donaire arrived in Manila Tuesday morning after winning against the Panamanian Rafael Concepcion via unanimous decision last Saturday (Sunday in Manila) in Las Vegas.

In an ensuing press conference, Donaire hinted at who he wants to challenge next. He said his promoter Bob Arum has spoken about Mexico's Jorge Arce as next on his list this December.

"I'm willing to fight the best out there. I want to fight Arce first because we are in the same category and weigh 115lbs,” Donaire said. "But I'm looking forward in fighting Fernando Montiel because we have an unfinished business."

Donaire said he and Montiel should have fought even before his bout with Concepcion, who climbed the ring against the 26 year-old champ weighing four pounds over the limit.

Though the Panamanian was later quoted complaining that Donaire “did not want to fight”, the Filipino champ said he fought fairly.

"Even if he (Concepcion) gave a headbutt and used his elbows, I did not resort to anything dirty. I want to show that I am a Filipino and that I fight clean,” Donaire said with much pride.

Donaire, who openly declared he offered his victory in honor of the late former President Corazon Aquino, is not hiding his ambition of winning titles in more weight divisions like local ring hero Manny Pacquiao.

After his win against Concepcion, he said he realized later on that he should be using his right hand to throw more jabs on his opponents.

"I should study my opponent by watching his previous fights,” Donaire said, adding he hopes to apply prepare better in his future matches.

Donaire added Pacquiao was a great influence on him as a boxer although unlike the General Santos native, he said he would only fight not higher than the 135lb limit.

I would prefer Montiel for more credit... Montiel struggled against the slower Gorres and I think Donaire can take him out..

Any of the top SFW would be a good fight for Donaire. I dont care if is Arce, Mijares, Montiel or Hasegawa as long as he can compete with elites. Rematch with Vic is not bad either.
