The duo had been slated to meet on October 3 in Atlantic City, but Pavlik has been unable to overcome an infection in his left hand.
The WBO and WBC champion was left with no option but to withdraw although the fight should still take place later in the year.
Pavlik's co-manager Cameron Dunkin told ESPN.com: "His knuckle is infected. It's all infected. It's worse than it was.
"He has to go on an IV drip starting in the morning and do it for the next couple of weeks to get it cleaned out. It needs medical attention. He can't put a glove on."
Potential dates for a rescheduled bout are thought to include November 1 and December 5.
How many times are you going to use a fake staph infection as an excuse to a reckless lifestyle? Let's face it folks, the alcohol has done away with this kid. I heard that not only is he battling with alcoholism (from depression) I also heard that he is struggling with weight.
