So i keep reading "JCC and Whitaker met in the middle, whats wrong with pac/cotto?"

Ill tell you what the issue is. When Chavez fought whitaker they were both coming previously from 135 from years before, they were roughly the same size. Both fighters were undisputedly the best from their division, so it was agreed that meeting in the middle would be fair. Neither chavez nor whitaker would be hurt from the weight issue, and chavez when he was in shape, never balooned to these insane weights, if i remember correctly, i think he only weighed like 144/146 against de la hoya in their fight at 147. Regardless, the rules were manipulated with ease because neither fighter would be losing any amount of strength or feel "weak" due to the loss of weight.

With cotto/pac, we all know that in the age of dehydrating and rehydrating, it creates a situation where one fighter will be at a noted disadvantage even with the loss of a couple of pounds. While i dont really care about this fight all that much, i am fully aware that its cottos choice to engage in the weight loss for money.

Another argument "cotto will be too big come fight night thats why the catchweight is nessecary"

both pac and cotto manipulate the rules when it comes to weighing in/next day weigh in. When pac was coming in at 145 for fights at 130, none of you had issue with that. Should marquez have tried to negotiate a catchweight of 127? No. Which is why i also feel that if you want to fight for a 147 lb belt, you should probably coming in at...147.

If pac wants to do what floyd mayweather did, which is show up at 150 lbs for a 154 lb fight, that should be all good. But the idea of these catchweights and fines for extra lbs on fight night and what have you is whatever to me. there is no need for divisions when everyone is creating their own.

I think i would feel different if cotto called out pac and was demanding a fight with him, but this fight is purely about money being kept in house using 2 rabid ethnic fanbases and pitting them against each other for the sake of a "mega fight".

If i made any factual mistakes regarding my analysis of the whitaker/chavez fight please let me know.

whitaker was not a real 147 or 154 guy anyway.

if anything i think he was smaller than j.c. superstar.

Did u also read about the outcome??They called the 1 sided beating Sweatpea gave him,a draw!!So what that tells me,is the whole affair was was for JCC,not really giving Sweetpea a fair shake!!Seems like the same thing here, whats the weight that comes to mind when u think welterweight, for me it's 147!!Any title fight should be at 147,but if they think Pacman deserves the world, then they should make him & floyd, their very own weightclass, where they can rule hand in hand!!

that was really why i made the thread. but the thing is, yes whitaker he was smaller than him, but JC himself never blew up to jr middleweight for a 140 lb fight was my point. which was why meeting at the catchweight was acceptable for both fighters.

most readers on here only know those 2 names from interaction between others on this board, which is why i felt the need to note it.

Why does this suprise you though, although it is probably good to note this fact.

You talk to the same people I talk to, most I would not really want to discuss events from 5 years ago, so more then 15 years ago there are only a few people that know boxing from that time and if you are talking about what goes down behind the scenes there are only a select few that can go back that far.
