When I first saw this move of Pacquiao against De la Hoya, I thought it was just an accident:

But observe this move against Hatton. It was the same move only in reverse.
Manny does what they don't expect and what they aren't used to defending against... he's unorthodox. Usually fighters jab and follow with the back power hand, Manny throws the back hand then shoots a hard jab. Oscar didn't even know what the hell was going on in there. Cotto will be no different.
HAHAHA, that first gif proves how weak dela hoya was, he was blocking heavy punches against mayweather all fight, and his forearms didn't budge an inch.
It's an advance boxing move, because it requires power to remove a turtle defense. Furthermore, you need speed on both feet so that when you execute the move you won't be countered.
if instead of those guys moving back they would have moved foward with a little bob and weave making manny miss with the first punch he would have tried to change direction of the second punch and making him vulnerable.
The punch is too fast to move forward. Always moving forward will get you countered ala Hatton.

I can definitely understand your positive points regarding that move but the argument that DLH was weak and drain is just as valid. You don't have to accept it but it is non-the less a valid point.
