HBO Approves 4 Options For Pavlik

There are four distinct possible opponents for the WBC and WBO middleweight champion.

Pavlik’s promoters have narrowed a list of his possible opponents to four, and will spend the next few days trying to finalize an October bout on HBO.

There are three possibilities at 160 pounds — WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm, former light middleweight champion Winky Wright and WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Martinez — and one at 168 pounds, WBO super middleweight champ Karoly Balzsay.

Pavlik’s promotion company, Top Rank Boxing, held staff meetings this week to discuss Pavlik’s future and got clearance from HBO for all four fighters. HBO is the premier cable network for boxing and has aired most of Pavlik’s major fights.

One other name to remember at middleweight is Paul Williams, although Pavlik’s co-manager, Cameron Dunkin, said he is not being considered at this time.

If he fights Winky that is a Disgrace. Pavlik is in the bin of disgrace at the moment. Only a dominant performance over Sturm or a career ending KO over Martinez would lift him out.

Out of all those names I hope its Winky. But the fight I really want to see is Williams vs Pavlik or AA vs Pavlik. But those probably will never happen

Well, Sergio Mora said on Espn FNF that he got a contract signed with K.Pavlik's promotor that they are not allowed to fight anyone prior to their fight, the only problem is that Pavlik continues to push the date all the time, that's according to S. Mora, so Pavlik won't fight anyone else prior to the Mora fight unless he break the contract.

Both Goosen and Arum are the reasons why a Pavlik-Williams fight isn't happening it looks like. That is one fight I can't accuse Pavlik of ducking. The challenger should be willing to take less than an even split. I think it should be close though like maybe 60-40 for Pavlik, because Williams is a quality opponent, and Pavlik's stock has dropped big time.

I think it's safe to say that HBO will not approve Mora and they are onboard with Top Rank and Pavlik trying to make this fight. No way Bob Arum just throws this opportunity of HBO's fee away to honor that contract. The only way Mora gets the next shot is if he ties them up with litigation and forces it which wouldn't be settled until next year.
